The saloon is on the edge of the Rīga-Liepāja highway (A9) at the 22 km road marker. Most of the dishes are based on ingredients from the forest. The church was built between 1932 and 1938 to replace an old Neo-Gothic wooden church. It was designed by J. Cīrulis. Until 1994, the building housed a venue that rented out films. Today it houses an exhibition, “From Foundations to the Steeple: Photographs of Ancient Lettigalian Construction Jobs.” This documents the construction of the church. The 37 metre steeple offers a good look at Rēzekne. |

This is a biological goat farm and cheese-making plant that offers various cheeses made of goat’s milk and cow milk. The farm has some 100 dairy cows. Owners Ruta and Stefans welcome guests and speak Latvian, German and Russian. The cheese is available on site, at the Kalnciems market in Rīga and elsewhere in Latvia. Since 1820 people have been brewing Estonian beer here using local ingredients, like groundwater, yeast and others. The Saku Brewhouse name comes from the previous brewery that worked until 1992. The brewhouse also has a museum where you can see beer production from centuries ago until this very day. During the tour it is possible to taste freshly made beer. Minors are not allowed to participate in the tour. |

Smārde ist ein alter Ort, der schon in den Quellen aus dem 13. Jh. erwähnt worden ist. Heute ist Smārde eine kleine Ortschaft mit einem Bahnhof und einem Geschäft. Nordöstlich von Smārde – im Moor von Smārde – befinden sich die ehemaligen Torfgewinnungsstellen. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs befand sich unweit von Smārde die Frontlinie, von der auch die Gedenkstätten in der nächsten Umgebung zeugen. |

Das Ferienhaus befindet sich am östlichen Ufer des Sees Lubans und bietet eine weite Aussicht auf den größten See in Lettland. Die Wirte bereiten Speisen aus frischen Süßwasserfischen nach den Rezepten der Vorfahren und nach selbst kreierten Rezepten. Lettische Küche: Brei mit hausgemachter Marmelade, Fischsuppe, Brachsen- oder Hechtfrikadellen, geräucherte Karpfen, geschmorte Stockente, geschmortes Hirschfleisch, Milch mit Waldbeeren. Für Reduzierung der Verschlammung der Flussmündung und Regelung des Flusslaufes wurde im Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts die Ostmole in der Länge von 980 Meter gebaut. Eine Holzpfahlbauweise bildet die Gründung der Mole, die mit Steinen bedeckt ist. Die 2,2 km lange Mole ist heutzutage rekonstruiert und dient als beliebter Platz für Spaziergänge, Erholung und Angeln in allen Jahreszeiten. Von der Mole kann man Vögel beobachten, von Zeit zu Zeit kann man Glück haben und eine Robbe beobachten. Am Anfang der Mole sind zwei Gedenksteine mit Inschrift zu sehen. Die Inschrift lautet, dass den Bau der Mole der Kaiser Alexander II. von Russland (1856) und seinen Thronfolger Nikolaus Alexandrowitsch (1860) besucht haben. Dieses Ereignis erhöht die Bedeutung des Rigaer Hafens im Kontext der damaligen Ostseehandelswege. |

The Mazburkas farm is in a lovely location between the Rīga-Ventspils (A 10) highway and Tukums, with a beautiful and hillocky landscape all around it. There are fields grapes on the southern slopes of the hillocks, and some 60 different kinds of grapes are grown there. Visitors can pick their own grapes or buy some that have already been picked. The lady of the farm produces outstanding wines that have received prestigious prizes, including international ones. Another specialisation is sheep breeding. Visitors can look at the herd and purchase mutton if they contact the farm in advance for that purpose. There is a large wooden platform at the farm for visitors. Owner Gunta Niedra is happy to share in her experiences and provide consultations to those who wish to engage in sheep breeding. |

The Limbažu Cheese factory has more than 90 years of experience with dairy processing. It only uses milk from local farmers in Vidzeme, while the dairy processing technologies have been brought in from Switzerland. Limbažu Cheese exports 95% of its output. Alongside the company and on the other side of the street from the ruins of the Limbaži castle is a little store where the company’s products can be bought. |

This is one of the loveliest waterfalls in Estonia – up to 6 m in height and 50 m in width. Recommended: The rapid Keila River has carved a cliffy canyon behind the waterfall, with a flow of water that falls down a major distance. It’s worth hiking through the Keila park to the shore of the Bay of Finland (~1 km), then returning along the other bank of the river.

The nature trail was built in 2003 supported by the WWF, the Latvian Environment Protection Fund, the International volunteering organization supporting conservation initiatives in the United Kingdom (BTCV) involving volunteers from Nīca and Rucava municipal parishes. The trail exposes the surrounding landscapes and related biotopes – dunes, forest, grasslands and bog, as well as bird and animal species found there. On the trail, there is a bird watching tower and two birdwatcher hides. You can see the rivers Paurupe and Līgupe, beaver activity areas, grasslands, black alder forest, spruce forest, floodland, wild horses, aurochs, the Šķilu lime tree, the Holy Grove, the Ezerskolas sacrificial stone, the Pape ornithological field station, the Papes polder grasslands and the Pape lighthouse. There are resting places en route. The trail leads through the historical Ķoņu village with the traditional coastal fishing village architecture of buildings and yards. This is a collection of cinema and photography items collected by the owner of the Ziķu homestead in the Zirņi Parish, which is in the Saldus Administrative District. The collection includes antique film cameras and objects that demonstrate the process of taking pictures and films. The exhibition is in a log building that the owner built – one that resembles bee cells. Please contact the owner in advance for a tour. |
