The area of the ancient Piusa River valley that is between the villages of Vana-Vastseliina and Ignasõ is around 15 km long, features some substantial rapids, and offers a view of beautiful Devonian period cliffs. The largest, Härma müür, is 43 metres high and is the highest sandstone cliff in Estonia. There are caves from old mines in the village of Piusa. A small part of the mines, which have tunnels that are more than 10 km long in all, has been tured into a local museum.

Der Fluss ist klein, aber hat ein großes Tal, das von der Straße Vecumnieki – Ilūkste durchquert wird. It is about 4 km long, and there is a bird-watching tower which offers a fine view of unique shoreline meadows with small lagoons and areas of reeds. It is a fine place to watch migrating birds. Is an ancient Courlandian castle hill and is found in the very centre of Alsunga.  It was named in 1659 when General Berg from Kurzeme put cannons on it to attack Swedish forces that had fortified themselves in the Alsunga castle.  The hill is 8 to 10 metres high and 24 x 54 metres wide, offering a lovely view of the St Michael Roman Catholic Church, as well as the Alsunga windmill lake that is alongside it.  There is a distinct terrace around the hill, and it once was the foundation of wooden defensive structures.  On the other side of the street, to the West of the castle hill, is a cemetery with fire graves of Courlandians that date back to the 11th to 13th century.  Archaeologists examined the area during the middle part of the last century.  The Suiti celebrate Easter and other holidays on the hill.

Seit der Mitte des vorigen Jahrhunderts wurde in der Seda – Heide Torf abgebaut, trotzdem bleibt es eins der wichtigsten NATURA 2000 Territorien in Lettland mit einer grossen Vielfalt an Landschaften, Biotopen und Biologie – insbesondere Vögel. Dies ist ein guter Ort zur Vogelbeobachtung während der Vogelzugsaison, ein Beobachtungsturm wurde zu diesem Zweck am Sumpf errichtet.

Rikavas Manor is the local architectural monument that belonged to Janovski family. Michael Riks bought the building in the second half of the 18th century. The construction works of the manor house lasted from 1870 till 1875. The redbrick building is an example of Neo Gothic style. Since 1926 there was established a school. In der Kirche befindet sich ein der bedeutendsten sakralen Einrichtungsgegenstände Lettlands – die älteste im Stil des Manierismus errichtete Kanzel Lettlands (1590) und die im 19. Jahrhundert eingestellte Kapellenglocke einer zerstörten Ritterburg (1450), die die älteste Kirchenglocke Lettlands ist. Das vom deutschen Meister F. Wolf geschaffene Altarbild “Christus am Kreuz” sowie der Altar sind vor kurzem renoviert worden.
