Slītere National Park, visitor monitoring data


Visitor monitoring in the Slītere National Park (SNP) was done following the draft version of the Monitoring Guidelines. The guidelines were improved during the monitoring process. The final version of the document  „Visitor Monitoring Guidelines in Protected Nature Areas. Example: Slītere National Park,  Latvia” includes the monitoring methodology and data of surveys done under the project. The document is accessible here. The visitor monitoring methodology was developed specifically for the SNP to find out environmental, social and economic impact from tourism in SNP as a tourism destination. The document describes methods for detection and evaluation of visitor activities, long term monitoring of nature and culture objects and assessment of the results. The below survey data in pdf format are accessible in Latvian. For convenience of English readers, they are included in the „Visitor Monitoring Guidelines in Protected Nature Areas. Survey data

Summary of visitor survey on Travel Day to Slītere, June 12, 2010. The summary is published in e-newsletter (2010, 11 MB, pdf, in Latvian). 180 respondents – 30% of the participants of the public discussion. The survey form included 15 questions. The aim – to find out visitor opinions on the tourism offer developed under project activities in SNP: touring routes, the SNP travel guide, outdoor information stands.

Summary of SNP visitor survey during 01.07.2009 - 01.07.2011. (2011, ~ 1 Mb, pdf, in Latvian). 1493 respondents. The survey was done:
- online, the form accessible from the project beneficiary’s web site  section http://serv.celotajs.lv/qst/;
- printed survey forms in tourism objects and accommodations in the SNP and vicinity;
 -printed survey forms during trade fairs Balttour 2010, Balttour 2011.
The survey form contained 21 questions and was translated in 4 languages: Latvian, Russian, English and German. Target audience – SNP visitors. Aim of the survey – to find out visitor opinions about the SNP.

Result analysis of the visitor survey on Protected Nature Sites and Natura2000 (2011., 826 Kb, pdf, in Latvian). The survey was done online in 06.2009. – 07.2011., survey form published in www.celotajs.lv, Latvian and English languages. The aim of the survey was to find out Natura2000 awareness levels and expectations towards nature travel. The survey form contained 15 questions.  1241 respondents.

Review of survey results in 3 years "Tourism in Natura 2000 sites" (2011, ~ 1 Mb, in Latvian) – rural tourism provider survey. Survey forms were distributed in events organised by „Lauku ceļotājs” and online.

Summary of survey „Tourism in Natura2000 sites” (2009, 1,174 Kb, pdf, in Latvian). The survey forms were distributed during the Latvian Rural Tourism Conference (11.03.2009.)  and during public discussion „What Happens to Rivers in Latvia” (24.04.2009.) The survey form included 11 questions. 164 responses (45% of the event participants).
