Latvian Midsummer celebration at "Laimes Ligza"
The "Laimes Ligzda" house offers to experience an unforgettable midsummer night with your friends or colleagues at a beutiful Vidzeme homestead.
Evening programme
- Guests join the local group of singers (it’s easy – just learn the refrain Ligo! Ligo!) – according to Latvian midsummer tradition, special songs, praising and teasing the hosts and their house, are dedicated to them. The hosts respond with treating their guests with special festive foods – home-made „piragi” (meat buns), cheese with caraway seed and beer.
- The whole party heads for the neighbouring homestead a 100m away to greet the folks there. More fun, beer and home-made goodies.
- All return to "Laimes ligzda" for the main party and feast.
- Traditional dancing performance. Everyone joins in to learn the steps of some Latvian dances under live band music.
- Lighting the special Midsummer-fires.
- Right before midnight – a torchlight procession, round the pond and through three gates "to meet the Sun". At the pond, some traditional mysterious fortune-telling rituals will take place.
