Karaims are a small nation of Turkish decent who practise The Karaim religion which started developing around 8th century in Persia. Their language is still used in modern-day Lithuania. In the museum there are rooms not only dedicated to Lithuanian Karaite communities but also Poland's and Ukraine's. |

This trail of pathways dates back to 2005 and it passes from the Dunte Estate (which has an exhibition about Munchhausen) along damp shoreline forests and on to the sea. There are rest stops along the trail with wooden sculptures related to the famous Baron Munchhausen, as well as other attractions. The trails are in the Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve.

One of the highest dunes in Latvia, located between Bernāti and Jūrmalciems villages. It is 37m high and offers a magnificent view of the sea and natural pine forests. The highest dunes in Latvia stand to the South of Jūrmalciems village: the Pūsēnu hill, the Ķupu hill, the Mietragkalns or Tiesas hill, the Pāļu hill, the Garais hill, the Ātrais hill, the Lāvas hill. The Pūsēnu dune is the highest of these dunes which are all called hills by the local people. The Pūsēnu hill developed between 1785 to 1835 when shifting sand became extremely dangerous. Several homesteads were buried in sand, among them „Pūsēni”, where a forester’s family lived. The family is said to have moved to Bārta. The dune was named after the buried homestead. Jēkabs Janševskis, a Latvian writer, wrote in his book „Nīca”: “In olden times, large pine trees were growing in the dunes on the coast of Nīca and they stood steady and firm. But i Swedish times (around 1650), the Swedes built a large kiln for charcoal and tar. Pine wood and stumps provided an excellent material for this. Once a big fire rose, and the charcoal kiln burned down as well as the whole pine forest. The remaining stumps and bare trunks in the vast burnout could not hold the storm-driven sand; it flew further and further burying not only the burned-out forest, but also the nearest fields. In wintertime, when the vast, low marshy grasslands were covered with ice, jets of sand drifted further over its surface, and soon most of the grasslands and large meadows turned into sandy heath-land and dunes.” To reconstruct Liepāja, severely damaged during WWII, a silicate brick factory was built in the town. The main raw material was white sand and it was taken from the Bernātu forest. In the 1960-ies they started to dig off the Green Dune and the White Dune, later also the Pūsēnu hill. The excavators used to work day and night, in three shifts. The work stopped at around 1980, as there was no more sand suitable for production of brick. A trail is set up to facilitate walking in the Pūsēnu Dune in the Bernātu Nature Park. |

Затем пройдитесь по тропам Национального парка Слитере, посетите деревни ливов – одной из самых малочисленных этнических групп в мире , отведайте свежекопченой рыбы. В Вентспилсе найдете множество развлечений для детей – детский городок, узкоколейную железную дорогу, аквапарки, хорошо оборудованный пляж и парк приключений. На обратном пути в Ригу посетите очаровательную Кулдигу с ее хорошо сохранившимся деревянным зодчеством и остановитесь на ферме, где дети смогут пообщаться с сельскими животными. |

На восстановленной в 20-е годы ХХ столетия (возобновила работу в 1992 г.) водяной мельнице можно осмотреть исторические механизмы и понаблюдать за процессом помола, а в кафе побаловать себя блинчиками, испеченными из намолотой муки. The “Dabas zirgi” centre for horse and human welfare is in the historical Mežinieku neighbourhood in suburban Rīga, and it will be a revelation to those who wish to have a sense of belonging related to Latvia and its environment. Touch the forest, enjoy the cool water of the Misa River, encounter a swamp or see the breath of a horse on a foggy morning. You’re welcome to spend a longer amount of time at this venue with new glamping opportunities in a lovely forested area next to the steep shores of the Misa River. This offers complete silence with only the woods and the river nearby. Along with the horses, of course. “Dabas zirgi” offers strolls with a horse, tours involving feeding the animals, as well as horseback rides. Family celebrations are perfect here with a lean-to, a grill, and a pot on a campfire. Contact the venue in advance to arrange for prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a sauna with a jacuzzi. |

The ruins of the Rauna castle (which was built in 1262 and was a main residence of the Livonian archbishop) have a modern viewing tower which offers a view of the impressive castle walls, the place where the former Medieval city was located, and the centre of Rauna. The local government office has the keys to the tower.

One of the rare places (see also Rucavas ivju audze) in Latvia where two rare and protected wild tree species grow - yew-tree and Baltic ivy. Territory is not marked on site with information signs or stands. Territory is not suitable for visitors as visitor without environmental knowledge will see “regular” forest. On the East side of the restricted area is located extending low wall – former narrow gauge railway (600 mm, length 41 km) line Dulbeni – Rucava. Railway was built by German military forces with the goal – to export wood.

Деревянную церковь возвели уже в 1766 году, а новая - каменная – была построена на месте старой и освящена в 1868 году. Благодаря своей высокой башне она служила дневным ориентиром для моряков. В 1993 году была освящена алтарная картина художницы Гунты Лиепини-Гривы «Христос и Петр на море», написанная вместо пропавшей. 18 ноября 1923 года в находящемся поблизости поместье Мазирбского священника (ныне - центр реколлекции) был освящен сине-бело-зеленый флаг ливов. В окрестностях поместья священника можно осмотреть Мазирбские чумные камни, которые являются свидетелями Великой чумы (1710 – 1711 г.). Текст на них на латыни повествовал о том, что прибрежных ливонцев победил Карл IX и чума. Тексты на камнях уже нельзя прочитать, однако они расшифрованы и известны. На кладбище в Мазирбе можно увидеть памятник Старому Тайзелю, памятник родителям капитана А. Бертольда и легендарную могилу оборотня. |

In Dagda, on the side of Daugavpils Street, there is a forested hillock that is the Lubāne castle hill. On the upper part of its southern side, there’s a viewing area which offers a view of the small Lake Lubenenis, the eastern part of Dagda, and the white tower of the local Catholic church. Legend has it that treasure is buried here.
