Kaltene is home to a memorial house that has been set up in honour of Andris Kārkliņš, who was known as the first internationally recognised flamenco guitarist of Latvian origin.  Known as Andres El Leton, he was a composer, poet, writer and photographer.  Visitors will learn all about the artist’s life and work via audio and video recordings.

Up on the second floor of the building is a small creative workshop (SIA “Rakstu Raksti,” where people produce applied arts items such as folk costumes, linen products, accessories, souvenirs, etc.  They sew apparel and home textiles from linen and other natural materials.  The workshop has floristics specialists, and it accepts orders on sewn, knit and crocheted products.  Master classes are also available.  Visitors will enjoy local produced foodstuffs from the Roja Administrative District (fish, wine, cheese, conserves, jams, teas, etc.).  Handicrafts and souvenirs are available for purchase.
 

Auf dem Hof werden aus Melisse, Himbeeren, Rainfarn, Frauenmantel, Wegerich und Lindenblüten Kräuterteemischungen und Teebeutel hergestellt (als Souvenirs oder Geschenk). Es gibt eine Imkerei. Die Hausherrin erzählt vom Leben auf dem Land, bietet Führungen zu Heilpflanzen und Imkerei an und zeigt, wie man traditionelle Gehege baut, bietet Verkostungen und Hofverkauf. Der Hof ist als Biohof zertifiziert, sodass großes Augenmerk auf gesunder Lebensführung liegt. Den Kunden werden folgende Tees geboten: Himbeere, Schwarze Johannisbeere, Lindenblüte, Mädesüß, Schafgarbe, Birkenblätter, Weiße Taubnessel usw.

Der Markt befindet sich in Straupe, Gemeinde Zirgi. Der Markt arbeitet unter dem Markennamen Earth Markets der renommierten internationalen Organisation Slow Food. Angeboten werden gute und reine Produkte, die in gutem Glauben angebaut werden, um die Nachhaltigkeit des Landes, das lokale Wissen und die Traditionen zu erhalten.

Während der Öffnungszeiten des Marktes serviert die Küche von Straupe Zirgu pasts köstliche Speisen nach lettischen Traditionen, die aus lokalen Produkten zubereitet werden.

The pond covers 2.3 ha, and its average depth is 4m.  Since 2013, it has been home to carps, tench, catfish, crucian, pike, roach, perch and other types of fish.  There are also two kinds of crabs in the pond.  The territory offers not just the joy of fishing, but also relaxation for the whole family.  Room for tents and picnics, a special swimming area, lavatory facilities and various attractions.  You can rent fishing poles, crabbing baskets and boats, and you can buy everything that you will need for a lovely picnic.

Welcome to our ceramics workshop, where we’ll be happy to tell you all about the miraculous transformations that occur in the world of ceramics.  We offer creative activities in shaping, spinning, sgraffito, a master class in rolled dishes, a common dish with handprints, fish scale vases or bowls, casting your hand in gypsum, and a chance to meet the family of horses that we have.  The gallery offers dishware for wholesale prices.

You can go mushroom hunting and learn about our mushrooms and places where they grow. The lady of the house will teach you secrets about cooking and preserving mushrooms. During the spring, you can help to gather morels.

About 20 minutes by car from Sigulda, this is a venue that offers you a chance to go fishing in a pond that covers 3 ha and offers every opportunity for relaxation.  You can rent a boat, and during the winter you can go ice fishing.  Next to the pond is a two-story house with a kitchen and an opportunity to spend the night as long as you bring your own mattress.  There are three rooms on the lower and three on the higher floor of the building.  Next to the house is a lean-to, and there is a pergola not far from the pond.  The More War Museum is a bit more than half a kilometre away.  Also nearby is the Safari Park.

Herbsts is a family-owned cidery producing natural, locally crafted cider in the western region of Latvia, Kurzeme.

Our Story
This is a story of old orchards, wild apple trees, and a passionate pursuit of creating ciders with a unique Baltic flavour.

Apples 
Cider is made from apples hand-picked in a 60-year-old orchard. The search for distinctive cider flavours also lead the cider makers to the wild, where forest apples with unique tastes are found. During the winter months, a slow fermentation process transforms the apple juice into a flavourful and refreshing drink.

Ciders 
Each cider tells a story of how its distinctive, unique flavour was discovered. The experiments and dedication were rewarded at the Nordic Cider Competition (NICA) in 2023, where "Dullais Dauka" won a gold medal and "Plūsis" took silver – the first international recognition for Herbsts ciders.

For Visitors 
Each autumn, cider harvest gatherings are organised, offering everyone a chance to enjoy active time in the orchard, taste previous years' ciders, and enjoy a meal cooked over an open fire. And, of course, there’s the chance to pick juicy apples perfect for cider making.

Brantu manor is located in Smiltene county, Brantu parish. The manor was built in the 19th century, currently it is managed by Ilze Briede, who is a well-known bread baker in Latvia, and Nauris Zutis - the owner of "Pirts skola" ("Sauna school").
The manor offers workshops with hostesses, excursions, Latvian traditional meals and "Pirts skola" workshop, which includes visit to the sauna, herbal ABC, herbal scrub, tea workshops and "Pirtsslota" ("Bath broom") workshop.
Brantu manor also offers various camps for the whole family, to learn about the Latvian way of life and perception of the world.
