Here you will learn about home-based manufacturers, farms, companies and others in Kurzeme that produce various dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, ice cream, etc.  Begin in Tukums, which offers lots of interesting foods and beverages.  Then cross the ancient Abava River valley, which is one of the most beautiful river valleys in Latvia.  The route leads to Wine Hill in Sabile and then Talsi, the “city of nine hillocks.”  Further on you will find Dundaga and its legendary castle, pass through large and lonely forests on your way to Ventspils, and then continue along the shore of the Baltic sea to Medze.  From there, travel back into the centre of Kurzeme, through Aizpute and Kazdanga, which is known for its own castle.  Visit Latvia’s first shiitake mushroom farm at Garīkas, the Milk Estate and the Milk Museum.  Further on will be Saldus with its tasty treats, then Džūkste, and then back to Tukums, where we started.

One of the most important locations for migrating water birds in terms of rest and feeding in Latvia is the Svēte flood-land, which overflows in the spring time, along with the Svēte polder. This is the only viewing platform of its kind. It is north of Pāvilosta, between the sea and Latvia’s largest gray dune. The second level of the platform offers a good view of the habitats which surround the dune, as well as the seashore and the largest seashore rock on the shores of the Baltic Sea – the Pāvilosta sea rock. You can also see the northern part of Pāvilosta. When it is windy outside, you’ll see kiteboard riders showing their tricks.

До XIII века Смилтенский край входил Талавскую землю, заселенную латгальцами.  После вторжения крестоносцев им завладел Рижский  архиепископ, возведя на крутом берегу реки Абулы в 1370 году каменный замок.  Последующие войны и эпидемии не сберегли ни застройку населенного места, ни жителей. Очертания теперешнего города начали проявляться в конце XIX века в связи с активными действиями князя Ливена - владельца имения «Смилтене». До Первой мировой войны в Смилтене работала деревообрабатывающая фабрика, гидроэлектростанция (1901 г., первая в Балтии) и др. предприятия. Во время пожара, при отступлении немецких войск в 1944 году,   сгорела большая часть исторической застройки Смилтене.

Находится в середине аллеи Атбривошанас в центре Резекне. Памятник освобождения Латгалии «Едины для Латвии» является символом памяти освобождения исторического края и единства Латвии. Бронзовый памятник был открыт в 1939 году. В ноябре 1940 года советская власть пыталась это уничтожить, но памятник был восстановлен в августе 1943 года. В июне 1950 года последовала вторая попытка уничтожения памятника, которая была удачной. После восстановления независимости Латвии «Латгальскую Мару» 13 августа 1992 года установили в третий раз.

Эту батарею проще всего найти, идя вдоль берега моря, так как одна из четырех позиций батареи находится на пляже – подмытая морскими волнами. Остальные позиции, телеметрическая вышка и другие элементы расположены недалеко от морского берега – в сосновом лесу. Батарея была построена в сороковых годах прошлого столетия. Отсюда уже видны Северные форты.
