It is the bicycle collection of father and son Jānis and Guntis Seregins, which is the only collection of antique bicycles in Latvia. They have been collecting cycles since 1977 when they joined the Antique Automobile Club and became fascinated with Latvia’s cycling traditions.
The collection’s core is formed from technically unusual bicycles. The most notable exhibits of the collection are one of the first Latvian-made highwheel bicycles, made in 1887 in the E. Mathies workshop in Liepāja, as well as the bicycle "Safety", which was manufactured in 1888 in the bicycle factory of A. Leitners (the rst bicycle factory in Latvia). A unique exhibit is a wooden bicycle produced in 1940 at the VEF sport aeroplane factory by the well-known Latvian aviation pioneer Kārlis Irbītis, who used aeronautical construction materials and methods. In total, the museum has approximately 70 Latvian-made and used bicycles.
Besides bicycles there are many other pieces of cycling ephemera relating to sport, cycle clubs and bicycle production. The museum has an extensive collection of bicycle brands, bringing together 1000 badges from all over the world.
The collecting process remains ongoing and the owners are grateful for any information about where potential new exhibits might be discovered.
