Covered with rocks and with small capes and inlets, this is the eastern shore of the Bay of Rīga and the only place in Latvia where sandstone outcrops are found. These are the result of the abrasive effects of waves between Tūja and Vitrupe. Among the most distinguished of these outcrops are the Veczemi cliffs, which are less than half a kilometre long and up to four metres high. The area has been improved for tourists. It has to be said that this part of the shoreline changes very often, particularly after large storms.

The church was built during the rule of Baron Otto Hermann von Fittinghof and built between 1781 and 1788 by the architect Christoph Haberland. Built in the style of Classicism, the church has elements of the Baroque style and a set of colourful rocks in a mosaic on the façade. The organ was built in 1855 by August Martin, and the bell was evacuated to Russia during World War I. The congregation replaced it with a much older bell (1530). The altar painting, “Baptism of Christ” was pained by an unknown artist and was restored in 2000. During the mid-19th century, there were many Estonians in the congregation, so worship services were held in Estonian, too. The church was restored in 1934, and now it dominates the city with its 55.5 m high tower. |

The spoon workshop offers useful objects such as wooden spoons, cutting boards, butter knives, pans, spatulas, etc. You can produce your own wooden spoon and look at finished spoons made of more than 17 different types of wood from Latvia. During the summer the owners offer “pancake tours” with tasty jams. You can purchase spoons and homemade wine. |

You can go fishing on Lake Usma and then the lady of the house will cook tasty fish soup and smoked fish from what you catch. You can rent a boat, take part in fishing and casting of nets (in the winter, too), or take a cutter trip on the lake. You can also taste canned smoked bream and go horseback riding. |

The national park was established to protect the 100 or so small islands that make up the archipelago of the local area. The largest island, the Vilsandi Island, is 6 km long and up to 2 km wide. You can rent a boat to get there, or, during appropriate conditions, you can walk across the sea and the small islands from the southern end of the Kuusnõmme peninsula.

Based on the tower of a former Soviet army radar installation, there is an 18-metre viewing tower at the Southern breakwater of Ventspils (Medņu Street) today. The tower offers a good view of the port territory, with the sea gate at the mouth of the Venta River and the city beach. Binoculars are available at the tower. It is worth walking down the Southern breakwater to get a better look at the sea.

The saloon is on the edge of the Rīga-Daugavpils road (A6), works with local fishermen, and grows herbs and greens in its own garden. Latvian cuisine: Cold soup, sorrel soup, chanterelle, soup, potato pancakes, filet of Daugava catfish, bream or pike-perch. |

The estate of 12 buildings and a park has survived almost completely to this very day. The main building of the estate was erected on a largish oval island in the 1840s, and it has a moat all around it. This was meant to resemble fortified Medieval castles. The mansion is currently home to the local parish government, library and post office. Visitors can take a tour of the estate and its surroundings. There are stories about the estate to say that the baron had a beautiful daughter who, like the Rose of Turaida, refused to obey her father's instructions. The word grīnis in Latvian refers to a very unusual type of forest – pine trees growing on sandy soil. There are two types of this environment – the heather type and the grass type. This is the result of long-lasting interaction between nature and humankind, and such sites are found in just a few places along the shores of the Baltic Sea in Latvia. A very rare plant which grows in the area – cross-leaved heath – was the main reason why a nature reserve was established here in 1936. An abandoned former rail line between Ventspils and Liepāja crosses the reserve from the North to the South. Visits to the reserve are strictly prohibited. |

Karņicka kalns pēc savas izcelsmes nav kalns, bet gan Daugavas ielejas nogāzes daļa ar labu skatu uz Krāslavas mazstāvu koka apbūvi. Ar šo vietu saistīts traģisks nostāsts par poļu virsnieka Josifa Karņicka un grāfa Plātera meitas mīlestību, kurai nebija lemts piepildīties tā laika „paražu” dēļ. Tā rezultātā abi nelaimīgie nolemj izdarīt pašnāvību. Virsnieks nošaujas, bet Emīliju pēdējā brīdī izglābj kalpone, neļaujot tai izlēkt pa pils logu. J. The Castle is a theme park depicting life of the 16th C stronghold where families can spend an exciting day as soldiers and noble knights. "Pūpoli" is located on the coast of the Gulf of Riga, 50 metres from the sea. Visitors have the opportunity to observe the preparation and smoking of fluke, vimba, bream, perch and other fish, as well as to purchase and taste them. |
