The Līgatne Paper Factory is located at Pilsoņu Street 1 in Līgatne. The factory was first built in place of an old paper windmill by two tradesman from Rīga who also built dormitories for residents. These structures are an important component in the urban environment of Līgatne. The rapid flow of the Līgatne River allowed the factory to produce writing paper, stationary and wrapping paper. In 1858, the factory was brought by a local nobleman who brought in new equipment from Scotland. If some 100 people worked at the factory during the first half of the 19th century, then that number rose to 600 by the end of the century and 800 at the beginning of the 20th century. Writing paper was the primary product from the factory, although there were sometimes special orders. During World War I, for instance, the factory produced paper on which the Russian military printed its maps. This allowed the factory to hold an important role in the Russian market. During the Soviet era, the factory at Līgatne produced notebooks and other products that were sent all over the USSR. Today the factory mostly produces wrapping paper of various kinds from waste paper. The Līgatne Paper Factory is the only functioning entity of its kind in Latvia, and there are guides available to give you a tour. The historical centre of the campus on which the factory sits is a cultural monument. The Līgatne Tourism Information Centre (_371-6415-3313) offers tours of the centre during which you will learn about the lives of the factory's workers and administrators in the late 19th and early 20th century. Back then there was major construction work at the factory to build residences for workers, a school, a childbirth facility, a hospital, a club, a guesthouse and other buildings which have survived to the present day.

The unique wooden buildings of the area (the Kaplava Street region) can also be seen on the bridge which crosses the Daugava. The "Pastnieka maja" restaurant is an old restored building in Old Liepāja. Legend has it that a postal carrier named Arvīds used to live there, and the building has been praised for its interior design. The Baisogalo Estate is one of the oldest ones in Lithuania and is known as a royal castle because it once belonged to the local lord.  The ornate late-Classicism buildings were built in the mid-19th century and have survived.  The 12 ha landscape park dates back to the early part of the 19th century, with an alley of chestnut trees leading to the estate from the local village.  The central alley that starts at the gate weaves through two curvy bodies of water with a bridge and statues of lions.  Various trees behind the estate are alongside curvy and narrow pathways.  On both sides of the alleys are bodies of water, and deep in the park is a pond with an island.

Naukšēni Winery is an organic farm producing cider from Paradise apples.

Our Story 
Cider and fruit wine have been produced here since 2012. The owner of the winery is Jānis Baunis. Wine production is a family tradition, passed down to the second generation; the founder was Jānis' father, Ilmārs Baunis.

Apples 
The fruits and berries are grown locally in Naukšēni, in the largest Paradise apple orchard in the Baltic, covering an area of 6 hectares. The orchard hosts around 20 different varieties of Paradise apples, with a total of approximately 2000 trees.

Ciders  
The Paradise apples give Naukšēni ciders their special and unique taste.

For Visitors
The owners offer tours of the production facility, where they explain the cider-making process and provide tastings of all available drinks along with snacks. In the autumn, they organise a Paradise apple-picking event, followed by a shared meal and drinks, featuring beverages from Naukšēni Winery.

The distance from Riga to Tallinn is more than 300 km and it takes approx. 5 hours by bus. Therefore we suggest stopping on the way for a brief excursion to a herb farm and lunch in a country pub. This stopover is approx. 1.5 hours’ drive from Riga, just at that point when one needs to stretch one’s legs and enjoy a change of scene. The visit will give an insight in rural life and it may surprise visitors to learn how well Latvians understand nature, knowing and using herbs for food, health and beauty. After the excursion, the group will have lunch in a country pub serving meals made from locally grown ingredients.

18. gadsimta beigās celtās Rundāles muižas ūdensdzirnavas atrodas Pilsrundāles centrā. Ūdensdzirnavas savas pastāvēšanas laikā piedzīvojušas divus postošus ugunsgrēkus, taču laika gaitā to darbība tika atjaunota. Tolaik dzirnavas darbojušās ar ūdens spēku un papildus tam bijusi uzstādīta arī tvaika mašīna. 20. gadsimta trīsdesmitajos gados, kad par īpašnieku kļuva Voldemārs Bergmanis, ūdensdzirnavu ēku atjaunoja un pilnībā nokomplektēja ar tolaik vismodernākajām firmas “O. J. Keller” dzirnavu graudu pārstrādes mašīnām, kā arī tika izvērsta plaša saimnieciskā darbība: labības pārstrāde, galdniecība, vilnas apstrāde un augļu pārstrādāšana.

Mūsdienās ūdensdzirnavu ēkā ir izveidots muzejs piecos stāvos, kurā var iepazīties ar dzirnavu darbību. Iespējams sekot līdzi grauda ceļam pa koka šahtām līdz samaltam miltu maisam. Piedāvājumā arī inventāra noma Rundāles ūdensdzirnavu tilpnē. Pieejami SUP dēļi, airu laiva, ūdens velosipēds un kanoe laiva.

2021. gadā tika izveidota neliela alus darītava un uzsākta alus ražošana. Tiek ražots gaišais un tumšais alus, kura visas sastāvdaļas tiek iepirktas Latvijā, bet graudi no vietējiem zemniekiem. Videi draudzīgā iekārta atbilst jaunākajiem ES standartiem un prasībām. Viesiem tiek parādīts alus gatavošanas process, piedāvā degustācijas, kā arī telpas pasākumiem un svinībām.

2003.gada decembrī folkloras kopa „Atštaukas” izveidoja folkloras centru „Namīns”, kurā svin svētkus, organizē Jāņu ielīgošanu, Lieldienu iešūpošanu, Miķeļdienas tirgu, Annas dienas Saimnieču svētkus, tautiskos Ziemassvētkus. „Atštaukas” palīdz saglabāt un popularizēt dažādus latviešu tautas godību rituālus, gan kāzu, gan arī bēru tradīcijas. Kaņieris is a seriously overgrown and shallow seaside lake. Its water level was adjusted several times during the 20th century so as to obtain agricultural lands. The lake has 14 islands, among which nine are natural and the rest are artificial and aimed at attracting nesting water birds. Lake Kaņieris has one of the richest diversities of birds in Latvia. An ornithological nature reserve was established here in 1964. In 1989, the lake was placed on the list of major birding locations in Europe, and in 1995 it was put on the list of the Ramsar Convention.
