The Suiti are a community with among the most colourful and unique cultural traditions in Kurzeme and Latvia. This was confirmed on October 1, 2009, when the cultural territory of the Suiti was included in the UNESCO list of global intangible cultural heritage, thus indicating that the traditions must be preserved. The Suiti territory is also on the list of folk traditions that is part of the Latvian Cultural Canon. Manifestations of this intangible cultural heritage include traditional festivals, habits, oral traditions, traditional singing and musical skills, folk costumes and culinary traditions. Since 2009, the Suiti community has been undergoing a renaissance, with people actively working to restore traditions and ensure their sustainability and promotion at the local, national and international level. The survival of the cultural territory is in the hands of the Suiti themselves, and this is closely linked to the practices and the creativity of community representatives. The Suiti believe the development of tourism in their area to be of great importance in this. This means emphasising a niche in cultural tourism that is based on the broader promotion of the unique cultural heritage of the Suiti. |

1.2 km to the south of the centre of Ģipka and on the side of the Jūrmala-Kolka road (P131), this church makes it hard to believe that the rock church was built very recently – after 1992, because it was burned down during the Soviet occupation in 1979. Ironically, the Dundaga forestry fire safety post was housed in the steeple of the church after World War II. The ornate altar and organ were destroyed in the fire, but the altar painting, “Christ on the Cross,” was saved. The church is now once again open for business. |

The national park was established to protect the 100 or so small islands that make up the archipelago of the local area. The largest island, the Vilsandi Island, is 6 km long and up to 2 km wide. You can rent a boat to get there, or, during appropriate conditions, you can walk across the sea and the small islands from the southern end of the Kuusnõmme peninsula.

The café is alongside the Rēzekne castle hill and the “Zeimuļs” creative services centre of Eastern Latvia (built in September 2012). A lovely interior design and a look at historical objects form Rēzekne are part of the café. It is named after the Rositten fortress that was built here by the master of the Livonian Order in the 13th century. Meals are offered throughout the day, and various foods and baked goods are for sale. |

Energia (Energy) Farm beside the Navesti River is the largest Estonian company to ecologically grow and process herbs. There is a big herb centre with herbal trails, a modern teahouse, a seminar centre and an eco-spa; the farm’s accommodation features all modern conveniences. |

Here you will learn about home-based manufacturers, farms, companies and others in Kurzeme that produce various dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, ice cream, etc. Begin in Tukums, which offers lots of interesting foods and beverages. Then cross the ancient Abava River valley, which is one of the most beautiful river valleys in Latvia. The route leads to Wine Hill in Sabile and then Talsi, the “city of nine hillocks.” Further on you will find Dundaga and its legendary castle, pass through large and lonely forests on your way to Ventspils, and then continue along the shore of the Baltic sea to Medze. From there, travel back into the centre of Kurzeme, through Aizpute and Kazdanga, which is known for its own castle. Visit Latvia’s first shiitake mushroom farm at Garīkas, the Milk Estate and the Milk Museum. Further on will be Saldus with its tasty treats, then Džūkste, and then back to Tukums, where we started. |

Lāči brand bread is popular in Latvia and abroad, because the bakery uses ancient mastery and skills. Baking traditions are supervised by 2 master bakers and 4 journeymen. You can take a tour of the bakery, knead and bake your own little loaf of bread, have lunch at a cosy saloon and purchase the bakery’s products. Lāči uses its own ingredients for its dishes, combining them with seasonal products from local farms. The bakery shop offers a wide range of products from bread to confectionery. The tower is on the banks of the little Tērvete River, with a view of the river valley and surrounding forests. Good views of the Tērvete River valley are also available from the nearby Zviedru Hill and the Tērvete castle hill. Note: The viewing tower at the Tērvete Ancient History Museum is not open to visitors!

The saloon is in the centre of Vecumnieki and features antique household objects as part of its interior design. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all prepared on an open fire, making use of an ancient spirit and the cookbooks of grannies. Desserts, too, are all made from natural ingredients. The central part of the town of Krāslava is an historical monument because its low-story and beautiful wooden buildings. The best views of the historical centre relate to the carp park near the Adamova trail, the Karņicskis hill, the bridge across the Daugava (Prospekta Street), and the Priedaine viewing tower on the left bank of the Daugava River. |

Arī Senču pilskalns, Baznīckalns un Velna gulta. Pirmo reizi minēts 1230. gadā kā viens no senās kuršu zemes Vanemas centriem. Ar šo objektu var sākt Abavas senlejas skaistāko skatu apzināšanu. Līdz pilskalna plakumam ved kāpnes, un no tā redzami senlejas vārti un upes ielejas kreisā krasta nogāze, kuras piekājē izvietojusies Jaunkandava.

The excessively damp forests at this place include the Vēršupīte River bog, and this is one of the most diverse biotopes in Latvia in terms of the number of species that can be found here. The fact that the area is regularly flooded is shown by the fat roots of black alders – indeed, the place looks like a stand of mangroves. The wooden pathway that is the Dumbrāju trail starts at the Forest House for those who wish to examine the bog. The most impressive views are seen during spring floods or rainy seasons at other times of the year. The little river breaks out of its bed and floods a large territory. The Lake Sloka hiking trail is another place where you can study the Vēršupīte bog. The circular trail is 3 km long, and its beginning is at the Lake Sloka bird watching tower. |

The Raudondvaris Castle is on the right bank of the Neveža River in Raundondvaris. The estate and a park that covers 3.8 ha has two buildings, an orangery, a stable for horses and a cellar. Alongside the estate in 1834 was a park that was rebuilt in the 20th century with new plants and flowerbeds that featured ancient types of roses. The northern part of the park is forested, with maple, pine and linden trees, as well as Edelweiss that blooms in the spring. Paths in the park lead to a local environmentally protected area. |

The owner offers groups of various sizes a chance to go to the sea in a fisherman’s boat and to watch shoreline fishing, as well. The lamprey eel weirs that are on the Svētupe River differ from those on the Salaca River in terms of their structure and the fishing principles. During the season, the owner prepares tasty smoked lamprey eels. |
