The cosy land road along the sea is 1 km long, and it offers a look at the wonderful aspects of the village.  To the right are rocks from the sea, as well as miniature flower gardens on the seashore with tempting benches and overturned boats.  On the side of the shore is the Kaltene library, which is more than 100 years ago.  It was initially a summer home for Baron Nolken, and it was built in 1899.  Later it was rebuilt several times and took on new roles.  An elementary school was installed here in 1926, after which it became a club and then, in 1992, a primary school once again.  The path runs along beautiful seashore homesteads, among which one can find the former homes of old fishermen and ship builders such as Burliņi.  At one time, the Žulnieki portage at Smilgas was the site of  the kiln of blacksmith Pēteris Valdemārs.  He was the main blacksmith for ships between Kaltene and Upesgrīve. (Source: Roja TIC)

The saloon is on the corner of two historic roads – the Rīga-St Petersburg road and the Cēsis-Vecpiebalga-Madona road. It uses ingredients from local farms and vendors.

Latvian cuisine: Grey peas with bacon, dumpling, beet or wild mushroom soup, bean salad, herring with boiled potatoes and cream, farmer’s ramekin, roast pork, potato pancakes, crepes, bread soup, strawberry dessert, homemade ice cream.

This park is in a region of hillocks in the Karula highlands, and Lake Ähijärve is at its centre. The park offers a cultural environment of small farms, and it was set up to protect the unique cupola-shaped hillocks of the area. Main attractions: Scenic Lake Ähijärv (176ha), Rebasemõisa Tornimägi hill (137.8 m above sea level), undulating landscapes.

The café is in the centre of Ludza, offering a large menu and complex lunches.  A speciality of the house is freshwater fish from lakes in Latgale.

Latvian cuisine: Pike, tench, carp and pike-perch dishes, with blood sausage, other sausages and pig’s snout prepared on order for the Winter Solstice.

Višķi is a populated area that started as the Višķi Estate and received the status of a village in the 19th century.  An agricultural school was opened there in 1921, followed by a one-year homemaking school in 1926.  During World War II, in 1943, the Višķi Gardening and Beekeeping School was established.  After the war, the Višķi Gardening (later Agricultural) Technical School was opened.  Because of these educational activities, Višķi ir not similar to a typical countryside village.  There is a wide area of lovely plants, including a dendrological park (est. 1936) and apple orchards.  A local guide will tell you all about the park, but you can also stroll through the village individually. 

Lohjansaari island is in the middle of the largest fresh water lake in southern Finland. Due to its fertile soil and warm micro climate, the area hosts several arboreta. You can visit apple orchards or spend the night at Martinpiha destination and enjoy a truly rural experience with the friendly local people.

Rancho Riisa is located in Soomaa National Park (Soomaa Rahvuspark), where there are a lot of fruits of the forest to be used in cooking. After a stroll through the national park and a refreshing sauna, the hosts will offer the best meal in Soomaa traditions.

The only Art Nouveau building in Aluksne, built at the beginning of the 20th century, now works as a hotel. Historically, the building once housed a Railway hotel, so the original name of the hotel - "Bahnhofs Hotel" (transl. from German - "Railway" hotel) was kept.

The hotel has 9 rooms (some of which extra beds can be arranged). At an additional cost an English-style breakfast is available. Hotel guests are offered a half-hour free access to the swimming pool at hotel "Jolanta", which is nearby, as well as electric scooter and bicycle rental.

A banquet hall is also available for various events.
