The guest house Depo is situated in the authentic recreation rooms of the Soviet locomotive brigade, on the second floor of the depot’s administrative building, next to the very popular tourism object – the train Gulbene- Aluksne. Kalnmuiza (Hohenberg) is a renovated castle of the Livonian Order which was built in the 15th century. In the 18-19th centuries the owners of the castle were the noble kin of Fon Bruken – Fok (von Brucken, genannt Fock), and during their rule the castle was constantly developing, a new owner mansion was built, as well as a variety of outhouses. The coat of arms of this kin has been preserved till nowadays. The castle is situated in an especially preserved territory of the ancient valley of the river Abava, next to a small river Amula. The nearest store is just 100 metres away. There are three types of rooms at Saules Kvartāls – a studio flat for a family, a small room for two, and a two-room studio type flat. The wooden building was erected in the late 19th century and features a museum which demonstrates the way in which people lived more than 100 years ago. Exhibits include household objects, the Rucava folk costume, socks and decorated mittens. A collection of peonies in the garden in Ķesterciems which is just 300 metres from the sea. The collection has been put together over the course of many years, with some that were first grafted in the 18th century and others that are completely new varieties. Each year the range is supplemented, with a bit more than 800 different kinds right now. Peony blossoms are at their peak attractiveness around mid-June. |
