Construction of the church began in 1830 thanks to money donated by nobleman Ludvigs Šabanskis. The Great and Small Baltezers lakes, which are in a forested and sandy area, feature a unique system in Latvia – a water delivery zone with artesian wells and water filtration layers. The system was in place in 1904, when the Baltezers pump station was opened. In 1998, the Rīga Water Delivery Museum was opened in the station, providing information about the 400 years of water delivery in Latvia, including various mechanisms, ancient wooden pipelines, etc. Around the museum is a boiler house, along with a machinery house, accommodations for workers, and mechanical workshops. |

The bakery is on the main pedestrian thoroughfare in town. It uses old recipes to bake wedding cakes and other baked goods. The bakery works with local producers of ingredients. The territory has been established for protection of the bog and its habitat species. It is not appropriate for visits. North-east part of the bog can be slightly seen from the road Neveja – Lapmezciems on winter season. Further on Cirste direction is located on of most impressive oak trees in Latvia – Rigzemju ozols.

SIA Mikaitas is a family company that was established in 2005 and breeds purebred sheep. It provides seed for other herds to breed fast-growing lambs with excellent taste. This unique territory covers more than 24,400 hectares, and the Soviet military used it as an aviation training centre. The history of the base dates back to 1951, when four kolkhozes were shut down, roads were closed, and several hundred farms and homes were simply moved elsewhere. A civilian presence at the base was restored only in 1993, when several new roads were installed. If you want to get a bird’s eye view of the base and its forests, you have to climb a high, manmade hillock from which commanders watched manoeuvres. We do not recommend that you wander off from the roads!
