This long tour of Latvia includes some of the best and most beautiful parts of Jūrtaka in Latvia. Hikes along the sea alternate with trips and excursions in the cities. You will go along the coast of the Baltic Sea from Mazirbe to Kolka, seeing Slītere National Park and Livonian villages. You will see Engure Nature Park and the overgrown seaside meadows that are suitable for bird watching. For the first time, Balvi as populated area was mentioned in 1224. In the turn of 19th and 20th century, Balvi as manor and the parish centre formed as a larger settlement. During the Latvian freedom fights in 1919 Balvi was a place of establishment of Latgale guerrilla regiment. In 1926 Balvi obtained village rights, but by the 1928 became a town. During the World War II, while retreating, the German burnt down Balvi almost completely. People of Balvi are proud that the sun rises here about three minutes earlier than in the capital. Also the centre of the town has changed over the recent years.

Saaremaa and Hiumaa are the two largest ones amongst 1500 other Estonian islands. In fact Saaremaa is the common name for Muhu and Saaremaa islands which are connected by the causeway like Hiumaa and Kassari islands. 
Kuressare is a capital of Saaremaa and that's from where this route starts. There is impressive medieval Bishop's Castle, many spas, pleasant cafés, galleries and market in the town. From Kuressare the route goes to sparsely populates Sõrve peninsula. Then going towards Kihelkonna you pass Viidumäe Nature Reserve and reach Vilsandi National Park which encompasses Vilsandi and 150 other off-shore islets. Its headquarters is at Loona Manor. 
Small fishermen villages, picturesque juniper growth, windmills are typical for the Saaremaa landscape. 
From Triigi there is a ferry to Hiumaa island which is much wilder than Saaremaa. There are peninsulas to all direction stretching in the sea. The route goes to Kõpu peninsula where is the most remarkable and the third oldest lighthouse in Europe located.  Kärdla is the main town of the island once renowned for its textiles factory which now houses museum. Kassari island is a retreat from several Estonian artists who has summer houses there. Kassari Church is unusual for its thatched roof. 
Arriving back to Saaremaa explore Meteorite Lake at Kaali and the earliest stone church in Estonia – Valjala Church. Return to Kuressare.

Cesis Castle complex is a place where the past meets the future. 
The medieval castle provides an opportunity to get into the 800 years distant past, to climb up the Western tower with candle lanterns, observe the castle garden and park, climb down to the dungeon, as well as to see how the blacksmith is making Latgalian ornaments in his Ancient jewellery smithy. 
Right next to the ruins stands the New Castle, an 18th century castle manor house. Now it is Cesis History and Art Museum, which details the events that occured up to 800 years ago, stores the very first Latvian flag,  the first coins of the city, the Biedermeier era style interior and the only historical facial reconstruction of a Livonian woman who lived in the Medieval castle. A great ending of the visit is Lademacher tower, from where you can see a breathtaking view of the city. 
The park at the lowland of the castle’s territory was set up as a family garden. It was created by the New Castle owner Carl Gustav von Sievers. The park is like a time machine, a shelter from all the surroundings, where one can enjoy some peace of mind. It is a place where everyone feels something special, receives an indescribable pleasure just by relaxing next to the pond. 
A bit further, right next to the city center is the May park, an essential component of the urban landscape, with its illuminated fountains and black swans that are living there. It is a great place where you can relax with your family, because the park also has a children’s playground with more activities.
