The Vecročupe river flows out of the artificial Vaide pond.  It was created by blocking the Vaide and the Kukšupe rivers.  This happened during the Soviet occupation, when forestry people decided to establish a fishing pond and an area for recreations.  A wooden pergola has been installed at the pond, and there is an information stand, as well.  On the northern shore of the pond is the Vaide cemetery, which dates back to 1928 and has interesting wooden crosses.

The History Centre Wittenstein is located in the Livonian Order castle on the rampart hill in Paide, where a time machine lift transports visitors through historic events and periods. The trip covers the period from 10,000 BC to the present day. The Centre uses lots of sound and light effects, video programmes and illusions.

Taka, kas izveidota Lemmjegi (Lemmjõgi) un Raudnas (Raudna jõgi) satekas vietā, iepazīstina ar palieņu pļavām un veciem pārmitriem mežiem, kas ir vieni no lielākajiem Igaunijā. Takas sākumā dominē atklātas lauku ainavas. Viens no 4,9 km garās lokveida takas apskates objektiem ir Lemjē dižozols. Mitrā laikā noderēs ūdensizturīgi apavi.

Viens no lielākajiem Augštaitijas pilskalniem, kas 2011. g. pēc vērienīgiem rekonstrukcijas darbiem ir izzināms jaunā kvalitātē - gan no infrastruktūras, gan arī ainaviskā viedokļa, jo iepriekš biezais pamežs (tagad retināts) traucēja uztvert iespaidīgo objektu. Arī no pilskalna plakuma paveras labs skats uz diviem blakus esošajiem ezeriem. Tā virsotnē apskatāms piemiņas akmens, kas vēsta par pirmā Lietuvas valsts prezidenta Antana Smetona (Antanas Smetona) apmeklējumu 1934. g. viņa 60 gadu jubilejā. Pilskalns it ticis apdzīvots jau I tūkstošgadē pirms Kristus. Uzskata, ka 14. – 15. gs. te atradusies hronikās aprakstītā Linkmenu pils. Jaunizveidotā taka pilskalnu savieno ar vēl vienu populāru apskates objektu – Ladakalni.

The farm borders the city of Zilupe. Melons, watermelons, and pumpkins are grown here in an open field. The host is one of the few Latvian birch bark craft masters, the hostess comes from an old family of gardeners and is a certified floral designer, and their son is a potter. All of them offer demonstrations, creative workshops, and accept orders.

Old Town Square is the city’s historic centre. It was here, on February 12, 1670, that Duke Jacob of the Duchy of Courland proclaimed the establishment of a town. During the early 20^th century, the square was covered in paving stones, and the city market was held there. On the sites of the square are the People’s Centre, the Unitarian Church and a tourism information centre. In the square are a water pump, an enormous scale, and a sculpture of a cougar, which is the symbol of Jēkabpils. From here you can tour the historical centre of Jēkabpils with its narrow streets and low-story buildings.

This is one of the most important destinations in Northern Kurzeme, offering a wealth of information about the history of the region and the shoreline, its cultural and historical values, the building of sailing ships, fishing traditions, local residents and their work and achievements.  The museum was opened in 1968, and right now it has permanent exhibitions about Krišjānis Valdemārs, the Roja maritime school and the building of sailing ships in the 19th century.  There is also information about the history of fish processing from the 19th century to the present day, the Liv Shore, and the Soviet contributions toward the development of the coastline.  The museum features three women from Kurzeme from different historical periods – Mildiņa, who is a simple fisherman’s wife, Mrs Pauliņš from the era of sailing ship building, and Anna Petrovna from the Soviet era.  The three women offer attractive information about objects that are not exhibited at the museum, also displaying the naughty sense of humour that people in Kurzeme have. (Source: Roja TIC)
