This is a very interesting monument to the history of fishing in the region.  These areas had docks and areas where fishermen built huts to store their nets and other inventory.  The areas also had a social role – men came together to discuss work that had to be done, while women and children wove nets.  The huts at Bigauņciems were eventually washed into the sea, and the areas at Ragaciems have been partly destroyed.  The ones at Lapmežciems are the ones which are best preserved.  One of the net huts has been restored, but the others are in very poor condition, indeed.  That may be why you should focus on these huts as you walk along the beach.  Make sure that you take some pictures of this historic location.

"Karpyne" has an excellent restaurant which offers both various fish dishes as well as other foods. Here there's a lot to do inside and outside, for example, inside is bowling alley, swimming pool, gym and outside - outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court, there's a possibility to fish too. This route section takes you to the Dzūkija National Park – it is among Lithuania’s most forested and desolate nature areas –, and to the town of Druskininkai – a popular SPA and mineral water health resort on the banks of the river Nemunas. When in Druskininkai, we recommend dipping yourself in mineral water baths, enjoying the trip with the cable car over the river Nemunas, visiting the musical fountain, and walking along the river promenade. The starting point of the hiking route is the village of Didžiasalis, which is reached by bus from Druskininkai. From there, the route will take you through vast coniferous forests, rich in berries and mushrooms, and small villages. As you get to Druskininkai, the Forest Trail will meander along the small streets and parks of the historic resort of Druskininkai, crossing the river Ratnyčia and the forest park on the right bank of the Nemunas valley. Leaving the resort town behind, the Forest Trail runs on the side of the village revealing you the beautiful landscapes and the view of the Liškiava monastery on the other bank of the river Nemunas. Up to the village of Žiogeliai, the route goes along forest roads and continues along the banks of the Nemunas valley, surrounded by the vast Dzūkija forests. Towards the end of the route, climb up the Merkinė Mound and it will surprise you with breathtaking views of southern Lithuania.

Nacionālā parka galvenā ainavas dominante. Ezers ir ~ 8,4 km garš un līdz 3,3 km plats. Tā austrumu krasti pārsvarā ir ar mežiem apauguši, ziemeļrietumu krasts – purvains, bet rietumu krastā parādās apdzīvotas sētas un simpātiskā Plateļu (Plateliai) pilsētiņa, kur meklējamas skaistākās skatu vietas. Ezera krastos ir labi attīstīta infrastruktūra - tūristu mītnes, ēdināšanas uzņēmumi (Plateļos), ūdenssporta un atpūtas inventāra noma. Ūdens dzidruma dēļ, Plateļu ezeru ir iecienījuši zemūdens niršanas entuziasti. Ezerā ir vairākas salas, no kurām interesanta ir Pils salas (Pilies sala), uz kuras no 15. – 16. gs. atradās muiža. Pastāv uzskats, ka senie Plateļu apkārtnes iedzīvotāji sākotnēji ir dzīvojuši uz salas, kuru ar krastu savienojis uz pāļiem celts tilts. Jāpiemin, ka 15 gs. pirmoreiz pieminētā Plateļu pilsētiņa atradusies uz Šventorkalņa (Šventorkalnis) kalna. Apkārt Plateļu ezeram ir izveidots ~ 24 km garš velomaršruts. Tā ir ļoti laba iespēja iepazīt parku videi un ceļotāja veselībai draudzīgā veidā.

Palieņu pļavas starp Rūjienu un Rūjas ieteku Burtnieku ezerā, kurām raksturīga liela augu un putnu sugu daudzveidība. Tās robežojas ar bijušiem Rūjas zivju dīķiem, kas šobrīd aizaug ar mežu. Nature restricted area is located to the South from former railroad Ventspils-Liepaja and includes approximately 6 km of Uzava River (and the old drainage system). The territory was used for agriculture during Soviet time, now it starts overgrow by scrubs. The protected nature values – rare bird species, including corncrakes, variety of grassland habitats and plant species. Territory is not useable for tourism activities. There is a possibility to get good insight into the North part of restricted area from the road Alsunga – Berzkalns where information stand is located.
