Bestes Apartments is a new guest house that can accommodate 45 guests at a time (+ 10 extra beds). The guest house was built and designed in the Latvian style (a wooden building made here in Mūrmuiža), beds made in Latvia, bed linen made in Latvia were used. |

The distance from Riga to Tallinn is more than 300 km and it takes approx. 5 hours by bus. Therefore we suggest stopping on the way for a brief excursion to a herb farm and lunch in a country pub. This stopover is approx. 1.5 hours’ drive from Riga, just at that point when one needs to stretch one’s legs and enjoy a change of scene. The visit will give an insight in rural life and it may surprise visitors to learn how well Latvians understand nature, knowing and using herbs for food, health and beauty. After the excursion, the group will have lunch in a country pub serving meals made from locally grown ingredients. |

The monument is on a hillock along the lovely shores of Lake Alūksne and alongside Pleskavas Street (P 40). The monument was unveiled on June 20, 1923, by Latvian President Jānis Čakste and was designed by the sculptor Jūlijs Miesnieks. It features a shield with crossed words, and the text reads “For fallen soldiers from the 7th Sigulda regiment, 1919-1920), and on the other side there is a text “Better to take my head than our fatherland.” The monument was torn down during the Soviet occupation (1953) and restored in 2009. |

You will learn about how honey is produced, watch a video, and be able to taste six or seven types of honey. If you wish, the owner will make pancakes for you. Products are available for purchase. |

First the route goes to the birch juice and wine maker where you can taste this traditional and refreshing drink, then a goats farm where to taste various diary products and see the animals. Further on head to Sigulda with the Olympic Bobsled Track and three medieval castles located on the banks of the river Gauja - Sigulda, Turaida and Krimulda. There is also a good network of picturesque walking trails. Then explore historic village of Ligatne established around the Paper Mill and visit local craftmen located in one of the caves typical for the area. Cesis is charming town with mighty medieval castle ruins and New Castle. Visit hemp grower and try the hemp prepared traditional way. Enjoy Koni Mill where wool is processed with old fashioned machines and warm blankets are hand-made. Visit crafts studio at Staicele and try to spot the stork colony with more that 30 nests along the road. At Mazsalaca where there is a nature park with trails featuring beautiful steep sandbanks of the river Salaca. The river is also famous for its lampreys and further on the route you could see the weirs for traditional lamprey catching. At Saulkrasti walk the Dune trail and enjoy the beach. Further on visit cranberry swamps where you can taste healthy berry in some form depending of the season. Visit elegant Birini Manor with huge park and great restaurant and return to Riga. |

The church was built during the rule of Baron Otto Hermann von Fittinghof and built between 1781 and 1788 by the architect Christoph Haberland. Built in the style of Classicism, the church has elements of the Baroque style and a set of colourful rocks in a mosaic on the façade. The organ was built in 1855 by August Martin, and the bell was evacuated to Russia during World War I. The congregation replaced it with a much older bell (1530). The altar painting, “Baptism of Christ” was pained by an unknown artist and was restored in 2000. During the mid-19th century, there were many Estonians in the congregation, so worship services were held in Estonian, too. The church was restored in 1934, and now it dominates the city with its 55.5 m high tower. |

Elkas kalna saimniecība is located on the top of the scenic Elkas Hill, the place where the Gauja begins. Herbal teas, birch sap, jams and other healthy delicacies from local meadows and home-grown plants. There are also nature workshops, open-air picnic areas. |

The windmill is on a hill and offers a lovely view. This is one of the few Dutch-type windmills (built in 1852) to still be in operational order, and guests can help to grind grain. On the last Sunday of every July, the windmill organises a celebration in honour of St Jacob and of bread baked from freshly harvested rye. Under the guidance of a craftsman it is possible to work with traditional wood-working tools and get to know ancient games. In the end you will have a chance to try special „strengthening” tea and have a picnic in a romantic Bonfire house. It is possible to buy wooden souvenirs as well as order them. |

A gourmet’s favourite in the very heart of Valmiera, opposite Valmiera Town Hall Square. This is a segment of the Gauja River which is full of rapids in some places. It stretches from Vidaga and the place where the Vecpalsa River flows into the Gauja. Along the Gauja and its tributaries, dolomite outcrops can be seen on the shores, and the largest of these are the Randati cliffs. The restricted area was established mostly to protect various kinds of forests, meadows, outcrops and their habitats. This is an interesting part of the central section of the Gauja for people who enjoy beautiful landscapes and for those who are water tourists.
