You will start your hike from the popular Latvian spa town of Jūrmala. The route is great for those who like to hike along the coastline, with former fishing villages full of unique coastline charm, as well as lonely and seldom visited beaches. Many villages have small smokehouses where dried fish can be bought. Your destination is Cape Kolka, which the father of Latvia’s maritime school, Krišjānis Valdemārs, considered to be the centre of Europe. This is an urban construction monument that was created between the 17th and 19th century, and it is of national importance. The street layout around Jelgavas and Rātūža streets forms closed blocks of buildings. There are Lutheran, Catholic, Orthodox and Baptist churches in Jaunjelgava. One of the most outstanding architectural monuments is City Hall, which was built in 1912 and features Art Nouveau forms. None of the city’s five synagogues has survived. The historical centre of Jaunjelgava features a promenade that runs along the banks of the Daugava River. This is a popular place for strolls, leisure and swimming. |

Diemžēl turpat pusgadsimtu ilgās pamestības rezultātā ēkas atrodas ļoti kritiskā stāvoklī. Tas ir arī pietiekams apmeklējuma iemesls. |

The church was built during the rule of Baron Otto Hermann von Fittinghof and built between 1781 and 1788 by the architect Christoph Haberland. Built in the style of Classicism, the church has elements of the Baroque style and a set of colourful rocks in a mosaic on the façade. The organ was built in 1855 by August Martin, and the bell was evacuated to Russia during World War I. The congregation replaced it with a much older bell (1530). The altar painting, “Baptism of Christ” was pained by an unknown artist and was restored in 2000. During the mid-19th century, there were many Estonians in the congregation, so worship services were held in Estonian, too. The church was restored in 1934, and now it dominates the city with its 55.5 m high tower. |

The oldest building in Jēkabpils can be found at Brīvības Street 125A. It is in the city centre and worth a look. The building is near the Lutheran Church of St Michael in Jēkabpils, which dates back to 1769 and is owned by the local congregation. The wooden building was erected in 1808. |

The word grīnis in Latvian refers to a very unusual type of forest – pine trees growing on sandy soil. There are two types of this environment – the heather type and the grass type. This is the result of long-lasting interaction between nature and humankind, and such sites are found in just a few places along the shores of the Baltic Sea in Latvia. A very rare plant which grows in the area – cross-leaved heath – was the main reason why a nature reserve was established here in 1936. An abandoned former rail line between Ventspils and Liepāja crosses the reserve from the North to the South. Visits to the reserve are strictly prohibited. |

The Ziemupe nature restricted territory is on the shore of the Baltic Sea, and it protects a wide variety of coastline biotopes. The distinguished grey dunes are found here, as are various kinds of forest biotopes, some of them quite rare in Latvia. There are many protected plants and animals in the area, too. The Akmensrags lighthouse and several tourist accommodations, like camping Laikas who "Sējējs" award, are in the territory. On the sea shore not far from center of Ziemupe there is well-appointed parking area with information stands. |

One of the rare places (see also Rucavas ivju audze) in Latvia where two rare and protected wild tree species grow - yew-tree and Baltic ivy. Territory is not marked on site with information signs or stands therefore it is hard for visitors to find. Not usable as tourism object.

The only Art Nouveau building in Aluksne, built at the beginning of the 20th century, now works as a hotel. Historically, the building once housed a Railway hotel, so the original name of the hotel - "Bahnhofs Hotel" (transl. from German - "Railway" hotel) was kept. The hotel has 9 rooms (some of which extra beds can be arranged). At an additional cost an English-style breakfast is available. Hotel guests are offered a half-hour free access to the swimming pool at hotel "Jolanta", which is nearby, as well as electric scooter and bicycle rental. A banquet hall is also available for various events. N.B. Hotel bookings must be made at least 12 hours before arrival. |

Izsens zvejnieku ciems - Lapmežciems atrodas skaistā vietā uz šauras zemes strēles starp Kaņiera ezeru un Rīgas jūras līci. Lapmežciemā izveidots zvejnieku muzejs, kuru var apmeklēt ekskursijas laikā, kā arī nobaudīt svaigi kūpinātas zivis. |

Found in the Alsunga Museum, the workshop has been open since 2009, showing people how various ceramics can be made from clay. Visitors can try their hand at the task or just watch as the clay is shaped, spun and, finally, glazed. |

One of the largest karst areas in Estonia is found here. The unique Witch’s well is one of the most interesting parts of this area. During spring floods (not every year, and for only a short period of time), the well erupts with underground river waters to create an unusually powerful karst stream that can pump out as much as 100 litres per hour.

The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route goes through Nõva Nature reserve where you will have exceptional views of the white and grey dunes. The beaches are popular for fishing and kite-surfing. In Dirhami you can spend some time in a cafe and from its terrace you will have a beautiful view of the sea and the port. Along the way you can also see ancient Swedish hamlets with a different cultural environment and landscape, as well as shallow lakes that have been separated from the sea. |
