It lies between Pīlādžu street and the left bank of the river Siliņupe. In the 3rd to 2nd millenium B.C., there was a fishermen and hunters' settlement in the place of which there is installed an informational commemorational stone (Sculptor O.Skarainis). The settlement near the river Siliņupe is the oldest known human settlement in the area of the Ķemeri National Park. There are found many artifacts: pottery fragments and arrow tips, flint and amber pieces, etc..It is possible that the adjacent residential area has been the place of a cemetery. A small portion of the finds is displayed at the Lapmežciems Museum, the other ones are located in the National History Museum of Latvia. |

The granary of the Dviete Estate magazine is on the side of the Dviete-Bebrene road. The restored building dates back to 1874 and was used as a prayer house from World War I until 1929, when the Dviete Catholic Church was rebuilt. |

Ģipka is a village that once was the site of the first maritime school in Kurzeme. It was opened in 1869, just a few years after a similar school in Ainaži. This was a Category 2 maritime school, which trained helmsmen for long-distance trips and captains for short-distance trips. The school was moved to Mazirbe in 1894. Before the maritime school, the building housed a different kind of school, and a second floor was added in 1867 specifically for the maritime school. Today this is a residential building. From Riga the tour goes along the right bank of the river Daugava and crosses it over at Plavinas HES to Salaspils. Visit National Botanic Garden then continue along the left bank of Daugava. On the route there is a model of ancient wooden castle where you can walk about. . Then visit the Kingdom of Rabbits where their homes are made like a little castles too. Time to taste some wonderful home-made ice-cream at Skriveri and visit legendary Koknese castle ruins park. Next day visit ethnographic working farmstead where you can see wild horses and cows as well as various waterbirds in the pond. Then the route goes to private mini zoo "Ezerlejas" with some exotic animals, visit ceramics factory where you can see how the hand-made clay products are made from the beginning to the end, walk around Rauna medieval castles ruins. Cesis town with mighty medieval castle and pretty old town is the next on the route. At Ligatne walk nature trails where you can see local wild animals. At Sigulda kids would love to visit "Tarzans" adventure centre. There is also Olympic bobsled centre and two medieval castles located. From Sigulda the route goes towards the coast with a stop at elegant Birini Manor with large park where you can try horse ridding. Then you are at the sandy beach of Saulkrasti. Before returning to Riga you can visit a farm with goats and ponies to taste goats products and cuddle animals. |

Mulgima or Mulgi is a cultural and historical region in the south of Estonia. The part of Viljandi county located south of the rivers Raudna and Tenasilma was considered to be region of Mulgimaa. In ancient times, Mulgi farmers were famous for their sharp minds and determination, which helped to buy land from German-Baltic nobles and become rich farmers. The icons of Mulgi culture - the dialect, the well-known men's long black jacket and the traditional Mulgi porridge - have survived to this day. |

Tagadējais dievnams (iepriekšējie celti 1652. un 1776. g.) būvēts laikā no 1839. - 1842. g. Vidzemē pazīstamā lībiešu būvmeistara Mārča Sāruma (1799. –1859.) vadībā. Par prototipu tam izmantoja Pievolgas vācu koloniju baznīcu veidolu. Dievnama altārī atrodas Pītera Paula Rubensa gleznas “Kristus pie krusta” kopija (oriģināls – Minhenē), ko 1887. g. baznīcai uzdāvināja Nēķena muižas īpašniece. Baznīcas remonta laikā (1928. g.) atklāja piemiņas plāksnes 1. pasaules karā un Latvijas Brīvības cīņās kritušajiem. Blakus baznīcas atrodas viduslaiku kapsēta. Celtnes autors un būvdarbu virsuzraugs - H. fon Hagemeistars esot teicis, ka šis dievnams esot „vienīgā baznīca visā Vidzemē un varbūt arī pasaulē, kas uzcelta bez apreibināšanās”. |

A marked hiking route (a guide will be needed) begins at the Jēči windmill, which was built in 1878. Nearby is a dendrology park and a collection of rocks. You will learn about moraines and other geological features in the region, study various kinds of swamps, see the unique piles of rock at Pugas, as well as the Kraujiņi rock. The route is 7 or 5 km in length, returning at the starting point, and it will take some four hours to traverse. Be sure to put on waterproof boots!

This recently built 26-metre wooden tower is on Ūdri Hill (58 metres above sea level). It is on the north-eastern shore of Lake Usma, less than one kilometre from the lake. The tower offers an excellent view of Lake Usma, its islands, and the vast forests which surround it.

The town's name in historical sources was first mentioned in 1224. In 1340 Archbishop of Riga built a stone castle at the Latgalian hill fort (now - the Lutheran Church). In 1802 (owned until 1920) Vecgulbene estate was bought by Baron G. Wolf. Manors in the surroundings of Gulbene and Vecgulbene castle substantially suffered during the Revolution in 1905 and in the further historical events. Today, there is a substantial change in the landscape, especially in the area of White Castle, where a large-scale restoration works occurred in recent years.
