Ilze Kupča bakes cakes in Mārupe, preserving her grandmother’s traditions. She has received several awards in various competitions in Latvia. She makes cakes and zephirs from natural products, which are either purchased from Latvian farmers or home producers, grown by herself, or even picked in the forests. Individual orders are accepted. Rye delicacies: blackcurrant and apple zephirs with rye breadcrumbs, lingonberry and caramel cake with rye bread. |

Baznīca ir it kā „sadalīta” divās daļās – vienā daļā notiek restaurācijas darbi, otrā izvietota bibliotēka. To ir vērts redzēt arī no iekšpuses. |

Between 1883 and 1891, the estate that was once owned by the Šadurskis family was rented by the father of the great poet Rainis, Krišjānis Pliekšāns. Rainis spent his youth at the estate, as reflected in the poet’s The Land of My Youth Days. Rainis translated Pushkin’s Boris Godunov while at the state. In honour of the poet and his contributions in the world of literature, an exhibition, “Rainis’ High School and University Years,” was opened at the estate in 1964. The restored cattle shed today offers a look at the work of potters in Latgale. |

One of the oldest botanical parks in Lithuania, this one was opened by Izidoras Navidanskas in 1928, when he was only 16. In 1965, the park because the Žemaitija botanical park, and Navidanskas and his son, Rapolas, who is the current owner, did a lot to expand it. |

The ruins of the Rauna castle (which was built in 1262 and was a main residence of the Livonian archbishop) have a modern viewing tower which offers a view of the impressive castle walls, the place where the former Medieval city was located, and the centre of Rauna. The local government office has the keys to the tower.

This tree is the one in Latvia and perhaps the Baltic States that has the densest foliage. Its crown measures 33 x 31 metres.

A unique farmyard that includes a full set of buildings typical of this area. The farmstead buildings reflect at least 300-400 years of Latvian nation-building development. One of the largest karst areas in Estonia is found here. The unique Witch’s well is one of the most interesting parts of this area. During spring floods (not every year, and for only a short period of time), the well erupts with underground river waters to create an unusually powerful karst stream that can pump out as much as 100 litres per hour.

This is the thickest and tallest common ivy in Latvia. It is in the park of the Zentene Estate, opposite the mansion (which is now a school).

was built between 1930 and 1947. On both sides of the altar are sculptures of angels that date back to the late 17th century and were sculpted in Subate. They are the only elements of this kind in the Baroque decorative sculpture in churches in Kurzeme. It may be that the figure of the Saviour on the cross with a sleeping lamb at his feet was produced by the same artists. No one knows how the artworks arrived in Subate. The organ with its wooden pipes was manufactured by Juris Bokums. During the season, the interior of the church can be toured, and if you contact the church in advance, you can arrange for organ music performances. |

The Apriķi Lutheran Church is, for good reason, known as one of the most beautiful churches in Kurzeme. It was owned by the Osten-Zacken dynasty in the past, built in the 17th century, and rebuilt in 1710. The wooden interior is in the Rococo style with elements of the Baroque, and it dates to the mid-18th century. It is amazingly ornate. The beautiful ceiling paintings, which were produced by a Prussian painter called Rode, were painted between 1744 and 1746. |
