To the North of the Cesvaine Castle is a park that is crossed by the rapidly flowing Sūla River. The Cesvaine castle hill is on the northern bank of the river, is around 15 m high and is covered by trees today. The grave of the owner of the castle, Adolf von Wolff, is there. It is said that he wanted to have his casket dragged to the gravesite on a sled. He died during the summer, but that was done anyway. The park features a wide diversity of trees and bushes, some of which the owner brought home from his extensive travels. |

Dabas liegums veidots ainaviskā Kāla ezera trīs salu (Tolkas, Lielā Vestienas un Vistu sala) un to mežu biotopu aizsardzībai. Diemžēl, salu apmeklētāji (makšķernieki?) aiz sevis ir atstājuši ne tikai nelabiekārtotas apmetņu un ugunskuru vietas, bet arī atkritumus. Tā kā salu vērtību spēs novērtēt tikai zinošs speciālists, ieteicams dabas liegumu vērot no skaistajiem un pauguriem klātajiem Kāla ezera ziemeļu un austrumu krastiem. Teritorija atrodas Vestienas aizsargājamo ainavu apvidū.

This building was erected in 1903 and 1904 to be used for military training, exercises and ceremonial events. An addition to the South of the building held a small church, but it is gone. The building was used for gymnastics performances and competitions for horseback riders. Official meals for the garrison’s sailors were held there, too – the hall could hold up to 3,000 people. Only the outer walls survive today, sad to say. You can view the exterior and interior of the hall at any time. This is the only building of its size and type in Latvia. The roof once had bands of glass tiles.

The confectionery, café, and shop is located on the main pedestrian street of Cēsis. They bake wedding cakes following grandmother’s recipes, prepare various pastries, and offer light lunches. This trip will allow you to visit a farm in Kurzeme and to experience the diversity of its output. Tasty and interesting! From Rīga, the road will lead you along the Gulf of Riga and through fishing villages which are full of the aroma of smoked fish. On the way to Talsi, you will visit an orchard and farm that produces apple chips. Talsi is known not just as the town on nine hills, but also as the home of the tasty "Talsi Wheel" brand of cheese. Also here is the Latvian Agriculture Museum with an exhibition about farming from the late 19th century to the present day. The symbol of Kuldīga is a red brick bridge across the Venta River, as well as the charming Old Town. Next you will visit the seashore to learn about fishing, fish smoking and bread baking traditions. Visit the unique steep shores of Jūrkalne. On the way back you will visit a winemaking facility and a farm where shiitake mushrooms are grown. You will also learn about the path of milk from a cow to finished dairy products and visit a farm at which people will tell you about the story of their family which dates back to the age of noblemen and baronial estate. |

No Vilsandi bākas un tai tuvākās apkaimes ir labi saskatāmas leģendārās Vaikas salas. Tām ir piešķirts rezervāta statuss, tādēļ salas var apskatīt tikai no attāluma. Mazākā no saliņām - Kullipank ir tikai pārdesmit metrus diametrā. Tā ir jūras ūdeņu izrobots zemas un asas dolomīta klints fragments, kas klāts ar oļiem, nelieliem laukakmeņiem un kādu atsevišķi stāvošu lakstaugu. Domājams, ka vētru laikā tā pazūd zem jūras ūdens. Savukārt, Alumine Vaigas – Apakšējā Vaikas sala ir lielākā no sešām salām. Šīs salas diametrs ir ~ 150 m un tā paceļas vismaz kādus divus metrus virs jūras līmeņa. Uz salas ir bagātīga veģetācija un pat kāds zems krūms salas centrā. Redzami arī metru augsti atsegumi. Uz salas vēl joprojām atrodas 20. gs. sākumā celto „putnu māju” paliekas, kas bija domātas ligzdojošo putnu piesaistīšanai. |

Ap 200 m garajā un izstieptās formas laukumā no 16. – 20. gs. atradās Liepājas tirgus. Laukuma malās tolaik bija izveidojusies vienstāvu apbūve – iebraucamās sētas, viesnīcas un dārzi. Līdz ar Pētertirgus izveidi 1910. gadā, izmainījās arī laukuma apveidi un to ieskaujošā apbūve. Laukuma DA malā slejas iespaidīgā Liepājas Svētās Annas Luterāņu baznīca. |

The former Ķemeri swimming facility used
to have a building of wooden bathtubs in the
19th century. The mud treatment facility which
is designed in the style of Classicism was
erected in 1924. The Ķemeri clinic was opened
here after World War II. A monument to Ivan
Pavlov, a distinguished Russian doctor and
physiologist is on the western end of the ruins,
and no one has taken much care of it, either.

The local “Police Academy” leisure venue offers cheese-based dishes from Sierštelle, as well as the sale of cheeses. Sierštelle offers 31 kinds of cheese, including savoury and sweet cheeses. One special recipe was born right there in Ogre at the popular Swimming Spa. |

Arī 18. novembra laukums. Tas sācis veidoties 18. gadsimtā kā tirgus laukums. Tā dominantes bija 1752. g. celtais rātsnams (nav saglabājies) un aptieka, kas šajā ēkā darbojas no 1810. g. līdz pat mūsdienām. 2010. gadā laukumā izveidota strūklaka, kam ir pilsētas ģerboņa forma. |

Vilsandi bāka sāka darboties 1809. g. Ja uzmanīgi palūkojas uz torņa, labi redzams, ka tas ir vairākas reizes paaugstināts. Tagadējās bākas augstums ir 37 m, bet gaismas elements atrodas 40 metrus virs jūras līmeņa. Bāka ar apkārtējām ēkām ir apskatāma tikai no ārpuses. Ja pa Vilsandi arhipelāgu ceļo ar jūras laivu vai citu peldlīdzekli, tad bāka kalpo kā ļoti labs orientieris daudzo salu, līču un pussalu labirintā. No bākas redzama jūras krastā uzceltā glābšanas stacija. Pateicoties tai, Vilsandi ūdeņos izglābti 29 cilvēki, 2 suņi un 1 kaķis. Tā stāsta vietējie. |

Eine der größten Kirchen Osteuropas (bis 16. Jh.) un die einzige mittelalterliche Kirche Estlands mit zwei Türmen. Wurde in 13. – 16. Jh. gebaut, zerstört im Laufe des Livländischen Kriegs. Im Chorteil der Kirche befindet sich das Museum der Universität Taru (früher – eine Bibliothek). Die Türme sind renoviert und in denen sind die Aussichtsplätze eingerichtet. |

Between 1883 and 1891, the estate that was once owned by the Šadurskis family was rented by the father of the great poet Rainis, Krišjānis Pliekšāns. Rainis spent his youth at the estate, as reflected in the poet’s The Land of My Youth Days. Rainis translated Pushkin’s Boris Godunov while at the state. In honour of the poet and his contributions in the world of literature, an exhibition, “Rainis’ High School and University Years,” was opened at the estate in 1964. The restored cattle shed today offers a look at the work of potters in Latgale. |
