The Aknīste Catholic Church was built between 1937 and 1940, and its design is based on the Kaunas Church of the Resurrection in Lithuanian. The building features the rectangular and geometric forms that were typical of the age of Functionalism. Inside is a large wooden altar, along with a pulpit and two side altars (from the early 19th century) which were once found at the Rokišķi church. They were brought to the Aknīste church when the one in Rokišķi was redesigned. In 1997 the church was granted the Blue Flag of European cultural heritage. Alongside the church are the red brick gates of an old Catholic church, which date back to the latter half of the 19th century. Also there is the Selonian Park. |

Mežvidi (SIA Latgale Vegetable Logistics) began operations in 2007 and sells tasty and healthy red tomatoes. The owners plan to grow and deliver tomatoes during the winter, when people have the greatest need for healthy and vitamin-rich vegetables. The farm helps to facilitate co-operation among people who farm vegetables, and it informs the public about how tomatoes are grown. |

At this museum, you will learn all about the baking of bread from grain to loaf, and you can make your own loaves, too. You can taste bread and herbal teas. There are theatrical performances related to christenings, weddings, birthdays, etc. Local foods such as dumplings and soups made of dried mushrooms or lake fish are served. The museum sells freshly baked bread, as well as the work of local craftspeople. The hostess is a master baker and a member of the Chamber of Crafts. Bākas uguns atrodas 21,3 m v.j.l. un tās detaļas savulaik vestas no Francijas. Pie bākas ieejas 1975. g. uzstādīta piemiņas plāksne par godu bākas simtgadei. Pie bākas atrodas bijušās padomju armijas militārās bāzes atliekas. |

Karulas nacionālā parka lielākais ezers - 2,8 km garš, līdz 1 km plats. Ezera ziemeļaustrumu krastā atrodas parka apmeklētāju centrs. 5,5 m dziļais ezers ir gan zivīm, gan nostāstiem bagāta vieta. Ezera un tuvākās apkārtnes iepazīšanas nolūkā ir izveidota 3,5 km garā Ehijerva taka (Ähijärve teerada). Tās sākums atrodas pie iepriekš minētā apmeklētāju centra, kur izveidota atpūtas vieta un atraktīvs bērnu spēļu laukums. Taka sākumā ved gar ezera krastu, nelieliem mitrājiem un meža ceļiem, kas izmantoti iepriekšējos gadsimtos. |

This is appropriate for active hikers who enjoy looking at nature and learning about cultural and historical environments. The hike is down the valley of the most impressive river in the Baltic States – the Gauja, as well as the deep and ancient valley of one of its tributaries – the Amata. Lovely Devonian sandstone cliffs rise above both sides of the rivers. The Līgatne Paper Factory village is an outstanding example of industrial heritage at the European level, with a unique environment from the 19th and 20th century. This saloon is located 5 km from Madona and at the edge of a highway in the forests of Smecere – the 37th kilometre of the Pļaviņas-Gulbene road. The building in which the saloon is housed was built in the 17th century, and today it is home to a modern leisure complex made up of a three-star hotel, a saloon and cafe, and a music club. |

This is one of the greatest waterfalls in the Baltic States – 8 m high and up to 70 m wide. It is most impressive in the spring and after strong rains. The waterfall and its ~300 m canyon emerged from the limestone of the Ordovician Period. You may spot some fossils there. When the water is low, courageous people try to ford the river both above and below the waterfall. The limestone and the falling water have established a unique “tunnel” there.

The origins of the castle that was built in the style of Classicism date back to 1784. Later it was rebuilt into a two-story building with a portico with four columns at its centre. A new period in the development of the state began in 1993, when restoration of the buildings began. The estate currently houses a children’s village, while the mansion is now a hotel.

A long village stretching along both banks of the Lūžņa River. In 1937, there were 36 houses and two boat piers here. During the 1860s, ships were built here, but during the Soviet occupation, there were military bases there. During the 1930s, the village was visited several times by the Finnish linguist Lauri Ketunen and Estonian student Oskar Lorits. They were working on a Livonian dictionary. Another resident of Lūžņa was the first Livonian artist, Jānis Belte (1893-1946). The "Dēliņi" fisherman's homestead has been transferred to the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum and can be seen there. |
