Haapsalu was once loved by aristocrats who stayed here during summers, nowadays this town is very appealing to its visitors because of its essence - tiny streets, old wooden buildings and promenade. Worth mentioning are also town's SPAs which were one of the reasons why Haapsalu was so popular its earlier years. Interesting enough, the famous composer Tchaikovsky considered this place one of his favorite's for spending the holidays. |

This is the 11th largest Estonian island, and its central section is covered by a broadleaf forest (linden, oak, elm and other trees) that is more than 100 years old. Along the shores, the Abruka Island has meadows and small areas of wetlands. Only the northern part of the island is populated. Few tourists come to call, which means that the island is relatively untouched by humankind.

The Staburags cliff of Rauna has been Latvia’s most distinct travertine cliff since the great Staburags cliff of the Daugava River sank under the waves during the construction of a hydroelectric power plant nearby. The cliff is approximately 8,000 years old and is still being formed as lime settles on moss and other plants. The Staburags cliff of Rauna is cited as the only location in Latvia of the Alpine butterwort, but it has not been seen there for the last 15 years. That is probably because of the many people who tramp across the cliff each year. The streams which deliver lime to the cliff are a biotope that is of priority at the EU level.

Храм (ярчайший памятник барокко в Латгалии) строился в период с 1755 по 1767 год по проекту итальянского архитектора Антонио Парако.В мире верующих это - очень важное место, потому что в 1775 году из Рима привезли реликвии патрона Краславы Святого Доната, которые в 1818 году поместили в специально построенной для этой цели часовне. С 1790 года вплоть до сегодняшних дней в первое воскресенье после дня Святого Петра празднуется день Святого Доната. В храме 13 алтарей. Автор фрески центрального алтаря «Святой Людвиг отправляется в Крестовый поход» - итальянский художник Ф. Кастальди. Позднее центральный алтарь дополнили алтарной иконой польского художника Я.Матейко такого же названия. В погребах церкви (восстановлены) можно осмотреть гробницу графов Платеров, созданную в 1775 году. Церковь осматривается изнутри. |

In the museum you can see a lot of items that are very important to their culture, for example the fine handicraft of the Seto women. Also since 2015 here you can also learn about other Finno-Ugric nations. There is a possibility to shop in the souvenir shop. |

Route meanders between a rocky seacoast richly overgrown with reeds and other grasses on one side and wooded seaside dunes on the other side. In some places, the beach is paved with small round stones, in other places you can see grey dunes with a rich variety of plants. Near Bērzciems village, there are large coastal meadows with shoals appearing far away in the sea that are suited for birdwatching. During this route, it is possible to visit the fishermen’s homestead “Dieniņas”, where you can buy local smoked fish. Also it is worth to see Engure port and Engure Evangelical Lutheran Church. |

This barrow is on the western side of the Dunduri meadows and was built on the parking lot of the former collective farm. From the second level of the tower, you will have an excellent view of the meadows all the way to the Džukste River and the Kauguri canal. There are livestock accustomed to life in the wild, although they will sometimes be quite distant. This is a bird-watching location from the springtime until the second half of the summer. |

Теперешнее здание (позднее барокко, ранний классицизм) было построено по инициативе герцога Курземе и Земгале Петера Бирона в период с 1773 – 1776 годы (датский архитектор Северин Енсен) на месте, где располагался дворец герцогини Анны. В 1775 году здесь было основано первое в Латвии высшее учебное заведение Academia Petrina (Академия Петра - названа так в честь ее основателя), а в 1782 году - создана первая обсерватория. Во времена Российской империи здесь находилась гимназия. Среди ее выпускников стоит упомянуть таких, как К.Баронс, Ю. Алунанс, Я.Чаксте, А.Сметонс и др. В 1952 году в здании гимназии основали Елгавский музей истории и искусства, которому в 1975 году было присвоено имя классика латышской живописи Гедерта Элиаса (1887 – 1975). Экспозиция музея рассказывает об истории города и края в период Курземско-Земгальского герцогства и после него. У впечатляющего здания расположены четыре пушки времен Курземского герцогства и памятник Г. Элиасу (1987 год, скульптор И. Зариньш), а также фрагмент памятника освободителям Елгавы “Лачплесис и Чёрный рыцарь”, изготовленный скульптором К. Янсоном. |

This section of the Baltic Coastal Hiking Route is suitable to hardy hikers who like to travel across uninhabited places. In many places, reeds, floodplains with pastures and wetlands stretch across the Estonian seacoast, which is why the itinerary often leads you along forest and country roads. In the second half of summer you can pick the mushrooms and berries in the coastal forests. Pärnu is a popular resort city with many cafés, live music, SPAs, hotels and a beautiful Old Town. |

One of the few places in Latvia where there are so many well-organised pathways. The region is known for castle hills, the location where the great Latvian author Anna Brigadere (1861-1933) lived and worked, the storybook character figures that are scattered around that area, a great forest, an arboretum, a museum of history, a viewing tower, landscapes, etc. This has been recognised as the most family-friendly place in the country.
