Here you will learn about home-based manufacturers, farms, companies and others in southern Vidzeme that produce various dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, ice cream, etc. From Rīga, take the Vidzeme Highway and turn toward Mālpils. On the way to Ērgļi and Jumurda, you’ll be delighted by the hillocks of the Vidzeme highlands and the lovely landscape that they represent. Near Ērgļi you will find Braki, the home of the classical Latvian author Rūdolfs Blaumanis, Meņģeļi, home of the Jurjāns brothers, and the Jumurda Estate. Drive on through Cesvaine, stopping to look at its impressive castle, and on to Madona, where you can have a delicious meal. From Madona, follow the lovely banks of the Daugava River to Koknese (Destiny Island, the Koknese castle, park and church), and on to Skrīveri, where the author Andrejs Upītis was born. There’s a homemade ice cream place and the factory that produces the universally known penuche candy that is sold under the “Gotiņa” brand name in Latvia. Then drive to Ogre for some Sierštelle cheeses and then back to Rīga. |

The tower is beyond the Oleri estate, in the small Oleri swamp, where at the end of a wooden footpath you can step upward a bit and learn about the landscape of a transitional swamp. This is part of the ZBR.

Der Bau der Burg wurde vom Schwertbrüderorden 1207 angefangen, aber 1236 umgebaut und auf Bedürfnisse des Livländischen Ordens angepasst. Die Burg wurde im Laufe der Kriege in den 16 – 17 Jh. sehr zerstört. Heute ist die Burg restauriert. Von einer Freilichbühne öffnet sich einen schönen Blick aufs Gauja-urstromtal. |

Adamovas krauja (aizsargājams ģeoloģisks piemineklis) ir viena no garākajām (ap 1,7 km) un augstākajām (25 - 35 m) Daugavas kraujām. Tā veidojusies sānu erozijas rezultātā, Daugavas ūdeņiem noskalojot Daugavas pamatkrastu Adamovas loka ziemeļdaļā. |

Landwirtschaftsbetrieb und Ferienhaus in der hügeligen Landschaft von Vidzeme, Cēsis 35 km. Hier werden biologisch zertifizierte Marmeladenbonbons aus Roggenbrot und mit anderen Geschmacksrichtungen hergestellt, Kastenroggenbrot gebacken, das Getränk Kwas aus Brot sowie Lebkuchenteig aus Roggenmehl zubereitet. Das ist eine der eindrucksvollsten und großflächigsten natürlichen Strukturen seiner Art in Lettland hinsichtlich Erscheinung und Landschaft. Die Eiszeit hinterließ dieses mauerartige Terrain, das bis zu 27 m hoch ist. Oben drauf wurde die Straße Rīga-Ērgļi gebaut. Die Großen Kangari – Berge bieten eine Aussicht auf den Großen Kangari – See und die Großen Kangari – Sümpfe und – Teiche. Der Ķoderi – Burgberg, auch als das “Bett des großen Mannes” bekannt, befindet sich auch hier. Das Schutzgebiet wurde errichtet, um die Struktur und seine zugehörigen Biotope und Pflanzen zu schützen.

The Vecročupe river flows out of the artificial Vaide pond. It was created by blocking the Vaide and the Kukšupe rivers. This happened during the Soviet occupation, when forestry people decided to establish a fishing pond and an area for recreations. A wooden pergola has been installed at the pond, and there is an information stand, as well. On the northern shore of the pond is the Vaide cemetery, which dates back to 1928 and has interesting wooden crosses. |
