The Neļķes cliffs are in Skaņākalns Park, and they offer the most beautiful view of the Salaka River valley, with its sandstone cliffs and peaceful river. There are good views from the “devil’s pulpit.” It’s worth visiting the Skaņamkalns Hill to check out the views from the famous echo cliff. This is part of the ZBR.

Atrodas Rīgas ielā 8 – skaistā, 1883. g. celtā jūgendstila ēkā . Muzejs (viens no Latgales lielākajiem un vecākajiem) tajā darbojas no 1959. g. (pats muzejs dibināts 1938. g.) un tā krājums vēsta par Daugavpils un tās apkārtnes vēsturiskajiem notikumiem. Tajā regulāri tiek rīkotas arī tematiskās izstādes, piedāvātas muzejpedagoģiskas programmas. Te vēl var apskatīt Daugavpilī dzimušā un pasaulē pazīstamā mākslinieka Marka Rotko (1903. – 1970.) gleznu reprodukcijas, kuras no 2013. gada plānots pārcelt uz M. Rotko centru Daugavpils cietoksnī. |

Построенная в начале 19-го века жилая рига с земляным полом - старейшее здание музея. Жилое помещение с комнатами пристроено во второй половине 19-го века. Во дворе есть еще баня по-черному, летняя кухня, амбар, подвал, каретный сарай и столовая (бывший хуторской хлев). Во всех этих помещениях экспонируются старинные орудия труда и предметы обихода. По предварительному заказу предлагаются традиционные деревенские блюда, можно принять участие в работе мастерских. |

Манеж (построен в 1903 – 1904 году) был местом военных тренировок, упражнений и проведения торжественных мероприятий Военного порта. В южной пристройке (не сохранилась) находилась небольшая часовня. В Манеже проводились гимнастические представления и соревнования наездников в упражнениях на ловкость. В нем устраивали официальные приемы пищи для матросов, где одновременно обслуживал до 3000 человек. К сожалению, до наших дней сохранились только «голые» стены здания. Осмотр Манежа как снаружи, так и изнутри возможен в любое время. Это было единственное закрытое здание такого рода и размера в Латвии, в кровельное перекрытие которого были встроены стеклянные панели. |

This swampy territory used to be part of a Littorena Sea lagoon, and it is a place where many rare and protected birds such as woodpeckers live and nest. Territory is hard to reach although some of the territory can be surveyed from the Tukums-Kolka road. Wet meadows is called "lankas" in Kurzeme region. |

The tour from Rīga to Tallinn combines natural and cultural heritage and includes lovely landscapes and 15 nature trails which cross marshlands, meadows and forests along the shores of the Baltic Sea, including several protected nature reserves. Many trails are equipped with viewing towers for birdwatching. Randu meadows near Ainaži contains one third of Latvia’s entire plant species. A boardwalk leads through reeds to a viewing platform with views over the meadow and the sea. Saaremaa island is interesting with very different natural attractions to the mainland - dolomite cliffs, juniper heaths, a meteorite lake and rocky sea shore. The tour passes rural farms and traditional villages typical of the coastal areas. Hiiumaa island is a laid back place and retains a very Estonian atmosphere with an important bird reserve at Käina Bay, unusual Sääre Tirp as well as several small islets off its south-eastern coast. The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route goes through Nõva Nature reserve where you will have exceptional views of the white and grey dunes. The beaches are popular for fishing and kite-surfing. In Dirhami you can spend some time in a cafe and from its terrace you will have a beautiful view of the sea and the port. Along the way you can also see ancient Swedish hamlets with a different cultural environment and landscape, as well as shallow lakes that have been separated from the sea. |

This is the thickest common juniper (Juniperus communis) in Latvia and the Baltic States. It stands in the middle of a field and looks wonderful. The tree is sometimes known as the Rieteklis juniper, because the Latvian poet Rieteklis (Jūlijs Eduars Balodis, 1856-1940) like to sit under it.

The road trip from Vilnius to Rīga will take you to the most beautiful and important sightseeing places of the Next on the route is the Dubysa Regional Park, which includes the spectacular Dubysa river valley, historic churches and mounds along its banks. Be prepared, since the terrain of this area is rather rolling. Next, you will visit the town of Šiluva, which is a Catholic pilgrimage site, and then travel to the Tytuvėnai Regional Park, where you walk the natural trail of the lake of Gilius, which is part of the Forest Trail. The tour will continue in the Kurtuvėnai Regional Park, where you will walk one section of the Forest Trail from Kurtuvėnai to Šaukėnai, leading along small forest trails, educational trails, beautiful tree alleys and through wetlands. Then you will go to the region of Samogitia, visiting Telšiai and walk one of the Forest Trail sections along Lake Plateliai. Next, the tour takes you through the stone town of Mosėdis to Latvia, where you will stop over to have a walk on one of the oldest towns in Latvia – Aizpute, enjoying its 19th century wooden architecture and the local wine brewery. Next you will take a small walk along the Forest Trail in the eye-catching Kazdanga manor park and drive on to the most beautiful town of Kurzeme – Kuldīga. At the end of the tour, you will walk a section of the Forest Trail along the Abava River Valley Nature Park and nature trails in the Ķemeri National Park. |

В период с 1883 – 1891 гг. бывшую господскую усадьбу рода Шадурских арендовал отец Райниса Кришьянис Плиекшанс. Молодой поэт Райнис провел здесь молодые годы, что отражено в «земле молодых дней» поэта. В «Ясмуйже» переведена драма A. Пушкина «Борис Годунов». За вклад поэта в 1964 году в доме управляющего господской усадьбой создана экспозиция «Гимназические и студенческие годы Райниса». В восстановленном хлеве господской усадьбы выставлены работы гончаров Латгалии. «Ясмуйжу» стоит посетить в Дни поэзии или во время открытия печи (в июне и августе). |

The ruins of the Rauna castle (which was built in 1262 and was a main residence of the Livonian archbishop) have a modern viewing tower which offers a view of the impressive castle walls, the place where the former Medieval city was located, and the centre of Rauna. The local government office has the keys to the tower.

Во время Второй мировой войны, в конце сентября 1944 года в Море завершилось одно из кровопролитных и жестоких сражений на территории Латвии, безжалостнее которого была только ликвидация Курземского котла. В битве при Море сражавшиеся на немецкой стороне латышские легионеры задержали прорыв Красной армии к Риге и предотвратили окружение военных сил 18 немецкой армии. Исход битвы был важен для гражданских жителей (> 100 000), которые могли и успели в качестве беженцев спастись от последующих репрессий. Ежегодно в сентябре месяце в парке проходят мероприятия, посвященные памяти сражений, которые собирают очевидцев и сочувствующих тех событий. Здесь открыта мемориальная плита с высеченными известными именами павших в сражении при Море легионеров и установлен высеченный в камне крест – в знак памяти павшим неизвестным бойцам. В 2 км на восток от парка создан музей, где установлен танк Советской армии.

Here you will learn about home-based manufacturers, farms, companies and others in southern Vidzeme that produce various dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, ice cream, etc. From Rīga, take the Vidzeme Highway and turn toward Mālpils. On the way to Ērgļi and Jumurda, you’ll be delighted by the hillocks of the Vidzeme highlands and the lovely landscape that they represent. Near Ērgļi you will find Braki, the home of the classical Latvian author Rūdolfs Blaumanis, Meņģeļi, home of the Jurjāns brothers, and the Jumurda Estate. Drive on through Cesvaine, stopping to look at its impressive castle, and on to Madona, where you can have a delicious meal. From Madona, follow the lovely banks of the Daugava River to Koknese (Destiny Island, the Koknese castle, park and church), and on to Skrīveri, where the author Andrejs Upītis was born. There’s a homemade ice cream place and the factory that produces the universally known penuche candy that is sold under the “Gotiņa” brand name in Latvia. Then drive to Ogre for some Sierštelle cheeses and then back to Rīga. |
