In 2010 the farm began to produce hard cheese under the brand name "Ievas siers." Visitors can taste the cheese and tour the farm and the cheese-making facility. |

Historians say that Liv tribes began to settle the territory that is now Latvia in the 10th century. They lived in Northern Kurzeme, at the mouths of the Daugava and Gauja Rivers, and from Ģipka to Oviši, where seaside fishing villages of Liv origin can still be found. Coastal residents have always eaten various sea, river and lake fish dishes, including smoked sole, Baltic herring, cod, bream or eelpout, baked lampreys, salted sprats, Baltic herring and common herring. Fresh and lightly salted Baltic salmon is a delicacy. Whole fish are baked on hot coals, including pike perch, trout, carp, catfish and European perch. Guests can participate in catching and smoking fish and tastings with bits of everything is available on degustations. Rye can be tasted in rye bread and sourdough bread, carrot buns and even pancakes and gingerbread. Barley buns are common in Vidzeme, as are tasty meat and fowl dishes. В 1223 году епископ Альберт построил в Лимбажи каменный замок. Лимбажи, как и Валмиера, стал членом Ганзейского союза. В начале XVI в. экономическая роль поселения значительно снижается, так как Светупе и Дуньэзерс не использовались для судоходства. В период с XVI - XVIII вв. город и горожане страдали от войн, болезней и пожаров. В результате количество жителей достигло своего наивысшего упадка - восемь человек. На рубеже XIX – XX веков и в начале XX столетия хозяйственная жизнь снова восстанавливается. |

This restricted area was established to protect a high-type swamp, a swampy forest and a series of rare birds. The Niedrāji-Pilka swamp can be crossed with dry feet while enjoying almost virginal nature. This is possible on the narrow-gauge railroad embankment which runs through the swamp for three to four kilometres from the North-east to the South-west, or on the well-appointed circular wood pathway which is on the eastern size of the embankment.
