Birdwatching starts in the Gauja National Park with beautiful rolling relief, then goes to the eastern edge of the Gulf of Riga and Lake Burtnieks where there is also the chance of night trekking on the flood plains. Seda bog with its reed beds and flood plains is rich in wildlife. Next day canoeing along the Gauja river will offer a different viewpoint to see the birds, plus with luck some beaver and other wild fauna. Then you pass through oak forest to Lake Lubans. Its wetlands and fish ponds form one of the prime birdwatching sites in the country. A local speciality - fish-soup - will keep you warm. The site is also one of the first known stone-age settlements in Latvian territory. On the way back to Riga there is a stop at Garkalne pine forest. |

The tour from Riga to Tallinn combines natural and cultural heritage and includes lovely landscapes and 15 nature trails which cross marshlands, meadows and forests along the shores of the Baltic Sea, including several protected nature reserves. Many trails are equipped with viewing towers for birdwatching. Randu meadows near Ainazi contains one third of Latvia's entire plant species. A boardwalk leads through reeds to a viewing platform with views over the meadow and the sea. Saaremaa island is interesting with very different natural attractions to the mainland - dolomite cliffs, juniper heaths, a meteorite lake and rocky sea shore. The tour passes rural farms and traditional villages typical of the coastal areas. Hiiumaa island is a laid back place and retains a very Estonian atmosphere with an important bird reserve at Kaina Bay, unusual Saare Tirp as well as several small islets off its south-eastern coast. Back on the mainland, Paldiski peninsula gives a glimpse of the recent history with its former Soviet military base. |

This is the oldest arboretum in Latvia. It was planned by the owner of the Skrīveri Estate, Maximmilian von Sievers (1857-1919). It has to be said that before World War I, there were two times more species of plants in the park than is the case now. The plants are grouped in accordance with the geo-botanic regions of the world. There are trails in the park, and signs showing the Latvian and Latin name of each plant are there, as well. There’s a fountain which is operated from every hour on the hour from 11:00 AM until 11:00 PM from Tuesday until Sunday. On the other side of the Rīga-Daugavpils highway is the Skrīveri Forest Park with hiking trails.

Although out of 104 village houses 97 were destroyed during World War I, at the end of the 30ies of the 20th century Lapmezciems "recovered" fast, and one of the most powerful coastal fishermen cooperatives in Latvia were operating in it. During the Soviet times here one of the largest fishery collective farms – "Selga" was founded here, the blocks of which can be seen at the mouth of the Siliņupe River. Today Lapmezciems is a popular area for summer cottages, a recreation and bathing place. As an interesting history monument of fishery the sedum of Lapmezciems is available for viewing – it is the former wharf of fishing boats, where fishermen built nest cabins and stored their equipment. Between Pīlādži Street and the left bank of the Siliņupe River in the 3rd and 2nd millennium BC settlement of fishermen and hunters were located, where a memorial stone is erected. This is the most ancient known location populated by humans within the territory of Kemeri National Park. Part of the findings is displayed at Lapmezciems museum, where local history research exposition is formed and materials about Finnish Jeager fights within the territory of Klapkalnciems are gathered. |

Vecākais no Pāvilostas parkiem - Upesmuižas parks (19. gs.) atrodas tuvu Liepājas – Ventspils šosejai. Upesmuižas pils nav saglabājusies (nodedzināta 1905. g.). Parkā apskatāms sens akmens sols (perimetrs 5,55 m) un Upesmuižas parka Lielais akmens. Domājams, tas ir kultakmens. |
