The Forest House (Meža māja) was built
in 1933, and this is one of the most
outstanding buildings in Latvia from the style
of National Romanticism. It used to house an
enormously popular restaurant, “Merry
Mosquito" (Jautrais ods). The restaurant was
popular among the spa’s guests, but also
among prominent people of the day. A
children’s sanatorium was installed here after
World War II for kids from all over the Soviet
Union. When the Ķemeri National Park was
established in 1997, the building became its
headquarters and today it is a modern visitors’
centre.

The Cheese hut dates back to 1768 and was once part of the Kalnamuiža (Smiltene) Estate. It is the only object of industrial heritage that is still found in Latvia. On the first floor there was the storage of milk and a set of cheese pots. Stairs to the second floor have been lost. The second floor was used to dry cheese, and the process was facilitated by holes in the walls of the hut so that the wind could help in the process. Although the holes have been filled up, their placement can still be easily seen. The Cheese hut is alongside the ruins of the Medieval castle in Smiltene. Sadly, it is in terrible shape and can only be viewed from the outside. |

Home producer Elma Zadiņa prepares sklandraušs, which have rye flour bottoms, as well as an old Latvian lunch dish - a porridge, using ground wheat and rye flour. The products are produced in small quantities at home. Tasting of porridge and smoothies is possible. |

The “Dabas zirgi” centre for horse and human welfare is in the historical Mežinieku neighbourhood in suburban Rīga, and it will be a revelation to those who wish to have a sense of belonging related to Latvia and its environment. Touch the forest, enjoy the cool water of the Misa River, encounter a swamp or see the breath of a horse on a foggy morning. You’re welcome to spend a longer amount of time at this venue with new glamping opportunities in a lovely forested area next to the steep shores of the Misa River. This offers complete silence with only the woods and the river nearby. Along with the horses, of course. “Dabas zirgi” offers strolls with a horse, tours involving feeding the animals, as well as horseback rides. Family celebrations are perfect here with a lean-to, a grill, and a pot on a campfire. Contact the venue in advance to arrange for prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a sauna with a jacuzzi. |

Ilziņš jeb Vestienas dzirnavezers pazīstams ar nostāstiem par tajā "periodiski uzpeldošām kūdras salām". Saskaņā ar vietējo iedzīvotāju sniegtajām ziņām, minētā parādība gan sen jau vairs nav novērota. Tajā pat laikā ezers un tā apkārtne ir nozīmīga daudzu aizsargājamu biotopu un sugu dzīves vieta. Ezers ietilpst Vestienas aizsargājamo ainavu apvidū. Ezeru var redzēt, braucot pa Ērgļu - Gaiziņkalna ceļu. Var pakāpties arī blakus esošajā paugurā (ziemeļos no minētā ceļa un ezera), no kura paveras plašāka skatu perspektīva.

In the exhibition hall there are changing exhibitions related to the history and present of the Suiti Women ethnographic ensemble. A special offer involves performances by Suiti women, Suiti men and Suiti bagpipe players. Also in the building are the Alsunga Tourism Information Centre, as well as ceramics and weaving workshops. Atrodas 0,1 km ziemeļos no Dobeles pilsdrupām - laukumā starp Tērvetes ielu un Liepājas šoseju. Tas veltīts 1. pasaules karā un Latvijas Brīvības cīņās kritušajiem kareivjiem. 1940. g. pilsētas Vienības laukumā atklāto pieminekli (tēlnieks K. Zemdega) desmit gadus vēlāk uzspridzināja, bet 1996. g. atklāja no jauna (tēlniece I. Berga). Laukumā apskatāms 1989. g. uzstādītais piemiņas akmens (tēlnieks M. Zaurs) zemgaļu aiziešanai no Dobeles, kas notika 1289. g. Pirms aiziešanas uz Lietuvu, tie nodedzināja savu koka pili Dobeles pilskalnā. Boaters along the Gauja will see the Velnala cliffs, which are the last mighty wall along the banks of the Gauja River valley – approximately 15 m high. From the opposite shore of the river, where there are leisure facilities, once can spot the Krimulda Devil’s cave, which is in the centre of the cliff, is some 19 m deep, and is 4.7 m high. There were once wooden structures which allowed people to visit the cave, but that stopped in 1980 for safety reasons. If you head toward Turaida along the lower part of the basic Gauja River shoreline from the Velnala cliffs, then, particularly when the trees are bare, you will see the mighty sandstone Piķene cliff. At its foot is the Piķene beaver trail, which is approximately 1 km long. On quiet evenings, you may well spot a beaver at work. Along the path you will see the Small Devil’s cave (5 m deep) with the Wisdom Stream that flows out of it. The Aunapiere cave is almost as deep. Between the cliff and the Gauja are several small rivulets which are of enormous importance in preserving the diversity of the surrounding environment. |

A marked hiking route (a guide will be needed) begins at the Jēči windmill, which was built in 1878. Nearby is a dendrology park and a collection of rocks. You will learn about moraines and other geological features in the region, study various kinds of swamps, see the unique piles of rock at Pugas, as well as the Kraujiņi rock. The route is 7 or 5 km in length, returning at the starting point, and it will take some four hours to traverse. Be sure to put on waterproof boots!

Mulgima or Mulgi is a cultural and historical region in the south of Estonia. The part of Viljandi county located south of the rivers Raudna and Tenasilma was considered to be region of Mulgimaa. In ancient times, Mulgi farmers were famous for their sharp minds and determination, which helped to buy land from German-Baltic nobles and become rich farmers. The icons of Mulgi culture - the dialect, the well-known men's long black jacket and the traditional Mulgi porridge - have survived to this day. |

The zenith missile brigade and its communications headquarters were used for the provision, planning and co-ordination of radio communications. The object is all but abandoned, but it is owned by the Latvian Repatriation Centre and the Christian Mission.

The owner uses Latvian products to make and offer more than 20 different wines, including some that are made of exotic flowers. You can taste and purchase wines made of berries, fruit, vegetables and flowers, including white jasmine, the elderberry tree, dandelions, the large cranberry, etc. There is a lily garden alongside which is the largest one in Eastern Europe and offers plants for sale. The day lily garden offers a look at globally famous types of day lilies which can be purchased. Many of these have been developed by the originator of the garden, Varis Baņģieris. More than 1,000 types of day lilies can be seen and purchased. The garden is open from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM every day in July and August, when the flowers bloom. The owner also offers tastings of homemade wine that is called "Vējkalnietis." |
