This nature park is located in the most distinct part of the Dagda hillocks of the Latgale highlands. Senieleja bagāta ar sausokņiem un kritalām, tāpēc Gaujas krastu mežos dzīvo visu Latvijā sastopamo dzeņu dzimtas sugu putni. Smilšainajās Gaujmalas pļavās un Gaujas vecupēs ir bagātīga bezmugurkaulnieku fauna. Upes krastos ir smilšakmens klintis ar čurkstu alām un zivju dzenīša ligzdām. Klinšu pakājē iztek avoti, kas uztur mikroklimatu ielejā. Gauja ir nozīmīga arī kā Latvijas lielākā lašupe. Maršruts ir daļēji marķēts un papildināts ar norādēm un informācijas stendiem.

Bejas meža dabas liegums veidots no reljefa viedokļa - interesantā, pauguru un starppauguru ieplaku saposmotā teritorijā, kuru klāj vecs un varens egļu mežs. Bejas mežā atrodas viena no Alūksnes rajonā vairākām "Velna pēdēm" - dziļa, krāterveida ieplaka, ko veidojis kūstošais ledājs.

Ziemeļos no Viļāniem (Jaunviļānos) atrodas ar mežu apaudzis osveidīgs paugurs – t.s. Kaupra kalns, kurā virsotnē meklējams (ceļa uz Trūpiem malā izvietota norāde) minētais akmens. Trīsdaļīgā akmens, kas atrodas mežā, garums ir 4 m, platums 3 m, augstums 1,9 m. Lielākās daļas virspusē var saskatīt nelielu dobumu, tādēļ pastāv viedoklis, ka šis ir sens kultakmens.

This territory was established so as to preserve the natural and cultural landscape of the most distinct part of the Alūksne highlands – a landscape which is made up of the highest hillocks in the area – Dēliņkalns Hill, Dieva Hill, Saules Hill, the Drusku castle hill, and the Kornetu-Peļļu sub-glacial river bed (one of the most significant terrain differences in Latvia). There are lakes, too – Lake Pilskalns, Lake Dzērve, Lake Ieva, Lake Raipals, etc. There are also significant biotopes – hillside and gully forests, various kinds of swamps and meadows, damp forests, etc., all with their own species of flora and fauna. There are nature trails and tracks for cross-country and downhill skiing in the area. There are three restricted natural areas in the territory – Korneti-Peļļi, the Avotu forest, and Dēliņkalns Hill.

This is a fairly unique territory in Latvia – a vast forest of oak trees (many of them very large, indeed), linden trees, elms and various other deciduous trees. Sedas purva kājnieku maršruts atrodas dabas liegumā Sedas purvs, pārgājienu pa maršrutu iespējams apvienot ar Sedas pilsētas apskati, kas ir unikāls 20.gs. 50.–60. gadu pilsētbūvniecības un arhitektūras paraugs -  kūdras purva strādnieku pilsēta. Maršrutam ir divi apļi - Jērcēnu aplis - 5,5 km un Sedas aplis - 4,2 km. Tajos apakatāms izstrādātais kūdras purvs, šaursliežu dzelzceļš, ritošais sastāvs, divi skatu toņi. Rudenī un pavasarī - putnu migrācijas lāikā -  interesanta vieta putnu vērošanai.

At the centre of this restricted area is the eutrophic Lake Tosmare, a former lagoon from the Littorina Sea. The lake and its surroundings offer protection to many plants and birds. At the southern end of the lake one can spot remnants of the former Liepāja fortification system, and to the West is one of the most important parts of that system – the Fortress canal.
