Die Geschichte der Bischofsburg reicht bis zum 13. Jahrhundert zurück. In den Kellerräumen sind ständige Expositionen über Natur und Geschichte der Insel Saaremaa untergebracht. Von Mai bis August sind in der Burg verschiedene Handarbeitswerkstätten tätig (Schmiede, Glas-und Keramikwerkstatt, Steinwerkstatt), wo die Gäste auch selbst mitmachen können. In der Nähe befindet sich Bogenschiessplatz. Dort gibt es ausser Bogenschiessen die Möglichkeit, Münzen zu schlagen. |

The park was established to protect the Venta River valley and the landscapes that are around its tributaries. On the west bank of the Venta, at Papilė, there is a cliff from the Jurassic period which is unique in the Baltic States, has been known since 1925, and has layers in which more than 300 forms of life have been identified over the course of time.

Im 15. Jh. kam das Landgut von Preiļi im Besitz der Familie des Grafen von Borch. Die Familie von Borch hat hier bis in die 1860er Jahre gewirtschaftet. Die Stadt hat sich in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jhs. herausgebildet, indem das Landgut, das Dorf und das Freidorf – die Niederlassung der Handwerker und der Händler – von Preiļi zusammengeflossen sind. Im 19. Jh. wurde in Preiļi ein prächtiges Schloss gebaut und ein Landschaftspark eingerichtet. Heute ist die Stadt ein bedeutendes Zentrum für Wirtschaft (für Käseherstellung und Näharbeiten) der Region Latgale, das seine Traditionen der Folklore, der Handwerker und des Katholizismus pflegt. Besonders empfehlenswert ist eine Führung in der Leitung von Irēna Kjarkuža, die bei der Touristeninformation von Preiļi arbeitet. |

Onions, fish, villages that stretch out for several kilometres where the buildings are lined along the main street, ornate Old Believers' churches, small harbours with fishing boats and wooden houses, each painted in a different colour! Cafés, shops and a view of Lake Peipus, which looks more like a sea than a lake. This could be the description of this tour. This tour is a very interesting part of the Forest Trail, which will give you an opportunity to see and enjoy the Lake Peipsi region, the culture and lifestyle of local people as well as the nature. The tour will start in Tartu – Estonia’s second biggest city. You will go by bus from Tartu to Varnja where you will start to hike. During the tour you can visit Kostja’s onion farm, where the host welcomes guests and presents onion cultivation. It is also worth visiting the Chicory Museum in Kolkja to get acquainted with the history of chicory cultivation in row villages near Lake Peipus. You will also see Alatskivi Castle. In Avinurme we suggest visiting the Avinurme wooden handicraft centre and get acquainted with the local woodcraft, spend quality time in woodworking workshops and taste or even prepare yourself a selection of Estonian traditional foods. At the end of the tour you will return to Tartu by bus. |

From Riga the tour goes through historic sea resort Jurmala to Pure Chocolate museum where you could see production and taste some. Then the tour goes to Sabile where there is small Wine Hill which history dates back to 16th century. You visit local wine producer who will show his gardens and talk about grape growing in the Latvian climate nowadays. Afterwards tasting of the seasonally available drinks. Then you visit small picturesque town Kuldiga and have some wine tasting there. Next day there are eco wine tasting at Aizpute and Durbe and then go to the city of Liepaja with lovely sandy beach, arty atmosphere and significant military heritage at Karaosta suburb. Then the route follows up the coast line. At Pavilosta you have a trip in traditional fishermen boat and at Alsunga singing and demonstration of local traditions by Suiti women. Culturally colourful community which heritage is listed in UNESCO. Then walk along the steep sea cost at Jurkalne and enjoy the best maintained port town of Ventspils. Next day there is a visit to local fishermen and see fish smoking process, then walk along Cape Kolka where the open sea meets the Riga Bay. Turning back to Riga you have a visit and tasting at wine maker in Talsi. |
