The lime gully that emerged as the Baltic ice lake receded is crossed by the powerful streams of Mežmuiža, and the water from these streams contains a high concentration of lime salts. The water from the streams flows into a mill pond that has a very interesting colour. The sculptor Teodors Zaļkalns once lived in the travertine mill that is alongside the pond. Wood pathways have been installed for those who wish to visit the streams.

There are ancient cheese-making traditions in Cesvaine, where the Cesvaines Dairy was established on the basis of the historical Cesvaine Estate dairy operation. The company produces butter, cottage cheese, cheese, home cheese and soured cream. The “Pie Arkas” store that is alongside the dairy sells those products. |

In Limbazi, in the crossroads of Cesu and Dailes streets, there is a monument dedicated to the author of Latvian anthem. The monument was designed by the sculptors Zigrīda Rapa and Juris Rapa. It was unveiled on May 16, 1998, when Limbaži was celebrating its 775th anniversary. |

Latvian blackhead sheep are in a clean environment at the Ances farm, which is in the Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve near the border with Estonia. It is in the Naukšēni Parish, where chemical plant protection substances and mineral fertilisers have never been used intensively. The sheep roam freely during the winter and summer, with fencing to protect them against wolves and wild boar. The farm only uses female sheep born as twins or triplets, including animals for genetic resources. All of the sheep come from German blackhead sheep and are only mated with high-quality LT rams in January, February, August and September. |

The farm breeds some 400 rabbits and also grows strawberries. Breeding rabbits, rabbit meat, strawberry plants (3-4 different kinds) and berries can be purchases. Lettuce is available in the spring and vegetables are on offer in the fall. You can take a tour of the farm and learn about rabbit breeding. |

The Soviet Border Guard arrived at Lapmežciems (its border with Ragaciems) in the mid-1960s and left in 1991. Some 50 military personnel were stationed here. The military personnel and local residents organised various events and celebrations. The only thing that worried locals was a radar which was said to cause various problems. The zenith missiles were dismantled and taken away in 1991. An apartment building is still on what was then the military base. |

This trail of pathways dates back to 2005 and it passes from the Dunte Estate (which has an exhibition about Munchhausen) along damp shoreline forests and on to the sea. There are rest stops along the trail with wooden sculptures related to the famous Baron Munchhausen, as well as other attractions. The trails are in the Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve.

Latvians live in close connection with nature and annual circle of life. The ancient knowledge how to use the goodies of the nature is still very much alive. Wild mushroom and berry picking is very popular as well as collecting of herbs and flowers for teas and infusions. This tour is trying to give an insight of various angles how to use and enjoy nature's resources. The route goes to Kemeri National Park which is rich of flora and also interesting for its sulphur springs which water is used to improve several health related problems. Then you visit farm which specialises on herbs and teas where owner is keen to share her knowledge about different properties of the plants and how they can be used. Then there is a sightseeing at picturesque Kuldiga and proper fishermen soup on bone fire by the coast at Pavilosta. Next day short trip in the river by traditionally made fishermen boat and experience trip how to make meals using wild products. Sightseeing at Liepaja with white sandy beach and exiting military heritage. Overnight at the Pape Nature Reserve. There is a chance to fish in the lake and learn traditional fish smoking technique. Visit Rucava tradition house where you can feel and see ancient cultural environment and try typical meal. Then you visit Shitaki mushroom grower and could taste them. Afterwards visit to herbal tea growers and producers. Excursion to reproduction of ancient Semigalian Castle. Next day wild mushrooming expedition into forest awaits and preparation of collected ingredients. In the afternoon visit to the producer of products from birch juice where you could learn how to extract the juice from the birch tree and try its juice and sparkling wine. Then back to Riga. |

This is a comparatively large lake (3 km long and 1.3 km wide). It is shallow (no more than 1.1 m deep) and is classified as a seashore lake. The Vecslocene River flows through it. At the southern end, there is a narrow stream which connects Lake Sloka with Aklo Lake – a shallow and small lake with a dolomite bed at some locations. The best view of Lake Sloka can be seen from the bird watching tower on its north-western shore. This is the only floating bird watching tower in Latvia. Alongside it is the beginning of the 3 km Lake Sloka hiking trail, which passes through the flooded wetlands of the lower reaches of the Vēršupīte. An information stand can be found on the shore of Lake Sloka by the car park. Beyond it is a sulphurous spring. |

Kolga Manor with its impressive territory, several buildings and antique feel will not leave you unmoved! Kolga Manor was first heard about in 13th century but the manor we see nowadays was built style of Baroque in 17 - 18th century but in 1820's it was re-built in the style of Classicism. From the end of 17th century until 20th century it was the biggest Estonian manor. Now in these buildings is a guesthouse, a restaurant, conference centre and a museum. It's possible to hire a guide. |

The name of the location translates to “Honey Castle,” and the owner has some 300 hives of bees. Honey that he has produced has won a number of prizes. He offers hogweed honey, honeyed local berries, and honey straws for children (the only place in Latvia where these are offered). You can tour the farm, taste ten types of honey, and purchase beekeeping products. “Extreme Beekeeping” is a process which will allow you to put on a beekeeper’s suit to learn about the hard-working insects up close. The owner also produces wax candles. |
