On this tour there are the finest cultural and historical heritage left behind over the course of several centuries – medieval castles, different manors and splendid palaces. Part of the route goes through Gauja National Park with some excellent views of meadows and ancient forest, where farmsteads carry on with their unchanging lives. A picturesque road connects three castles - Sigulda, Turaida and Krimulda - situated on the high valley sides of the Gauja river. Further on, the road passes one of the oldest churches in Latvia and heads to two attractive 19th century manors at Birini and Igate. Next day, relax in luxury at Dikļi manor hotel. The tour then goes through charming medieval town Cesis with mighty castle ruins and a newer castle alomgside. The other part of the tour makes a loop formed by Zemgale's distinctive castles and palaces. It includes Jaunpils Castle, barely changed since medieval times, Dobele Castle ruins and Tervete ancient hillock. Located a short ride from each other are 15th century Bauska Castle, strategically situated between two rivers, the classically styled Mežotne Palace hotel and the most famous pearl in the Baltics - splendid baroque and rococo style Rundāle Palace surrounded by a French park. |

At the end of the Pakri peninsula is the most visually impressive shoreline cliff in the Baltic States – the Pakri cliff (Pakri pank), which is as much as 24 metres high. During cold winters, streams which flow from the layers of limestone cliffs form fantastic and unusual shapes of ice.

This is a farm of pedigree rabbits (11 breeds, ~200 rabbits). You can go on a tour of the farm and receive consultations on the breeding and selection of rabbits. You can also buy pedigreed rabbits for yourself. |

The barrow which offers a good view is at the northern end of the Dunduri meadows – at the end of Melnragi. It is an artificial barrow which follows along with the bed of the little Slampe River. The meadows are home to livestock allowed to live in the wild, and you can see a bit of the restored Slampe. The view is particularly interesting during flooding season, when the surrounding wetlands become saturated. This is a location for bird-watching.

This is the highest church tower in Latvia, and from it you can see views of the Alūksne highlands. The view to the South is particularly impressive.

The museum’s main house in Kärdla (open all year round) and branches in Kassari and Käina (open in summer) give an insight into wool manufacturing, seafaring, agriculture and manor estates on the island, islanders´ life through tsarist and Soviet regimes and independence. The church is on the highest part of the banks of the Marku river, and it is behind the Piedruja border control point. A paved street leads to the church, and it is thought that it was built in the early 20th century by local farmers, who were required to bring stones for the street when they attended worship services. The church has six cupolas and is seen as one of the most beautiful ones in the Krāslava Administrative District. The building was erected between 1883 and 1885 to replace an old 17th century wooden church. It corresponds to the architectural form of the Old Russian town of Vladimir and the Byzantine style. It is said that at one time the church had as many as 1,000 members. |

From the highest point in the Alūksne highlands, you will see an unusually beautiful view of the surrounding forested hillocks and the small areas of meadows and farmland. Sadly, there are no improvements to the location, which can be difficult to access. It is on private property.

Medinski Vincīši boulder also called Magoņkalns (Poppy hill). Red rapakivi granite boulder is found
in the tree cluster only 40 m to the left of Jaunviļāni – Medinski road and about 40 m from the right side of
the river Malta. The boulder is 6,6 m long, 5,4 m wide and 3,3 m high. The circuit of the boulder is 20 m
and the volume 40 – 45 m3.

This cliff is made of sandstone (its lower part) and limestone (the upper part). It is up to 30 m high, and it is part of the Northern Estonian set of cliffs along the shore of the Bay of Finland. This is a popular tourism destination and viewing location. Recommended Hike along the bottom of the cliff (a rocky beach) in one direction, and then along the top of the cliff to get back (~2 km). From the top of the cliff, you can see a broad segment of the shoreline territory, all the way to Tallinn.
