A shallow, eutrophic (more than 60% coverage), lagoon-type lake, which is a restricted area to protect the overgrowing lake and the damp meadows which surround it. Karņicka kalns pēc savas izcelsmes nav kalns, bet gan Daugavas ielejas nogāzes daļa ar labu skatu uz Krāslavas mazstāvu koka apbūvi. Ar šo vietu saistīts traģisks nostāsts par poļu virsnieka Josifa Karņicka un grāfa Plātera meitas mīlestību, kurai nebija lemts piepildīties tā laika „paražu” dēļ. Tā rezultātā abi nelaimīgie nolemj izdarīt pašnāvību. Virsnieks nošaujas, bet Emīliju pēdējā brīdī izglābj kalpone, neļaujot tai izlēkt pa pils logu. J. Karņicka pašnāvības vietā ir uzstādīts piemineklis. Nedaudz tālāk – rietumu virzienā guļ t.s. Austriņa akmens, pie kura 1909. gadā iedvesmojies un radījis latviešu rakstnieks Antons Austriņš.

This path is found on the right bank of the ancient Abava river valley. The visitor will be able to view places where underground streams create wetlands, various kinds of meadows, a stand of juniper bushes, etc. The area is “managed” all year long by “wild” cows. The shore of the ancient valley can be climbed (some 200 steps), and the view is magnificent. It is recommended that the trail be visited in the company of a knowledgeable guide. There is a shorter path that is 600m long, along with a longer one that is more than a kilometre in length. It will take an hour or so to traverse it. Objects are found in the ancient Abava valley nature park.

1.2 km long, the trail passes through a unique terrain of hillocks and forests, with the height of the valley rising to as much as 15 metres.  Visitors will find a diversity of plant life, as well as the beautiful little Kauliņupīte River, which crosses the rail at two points.  The health trail was established in the late 1990s.

Reškutenu (Reškutėnai) ciema apkārtnē ir atjaunots neliels mitrājs, kura malā uzcelts putnu vērošanas tornis. Ja paveicas, pavasaros te var dzirdēt vai redzēt tādas retas un aizsargājamas putnu sugas kā ķikutu Gallinago media, ormanīti Porzana porzana, melnkakla dūkuri Podiceps nigricollis, griezi Crex crex u.c. Ciema ainava īpaši pievilcīga ir pieneņu un ābeļu ziedēšanas laikā. No putnu vērošanas torņa var redzēt vietas, kur akmens laikmetā dzīvojuši cilvēki. Blakus esošajā purvainajā pļavā bijis ezera līcis, kur tika būvēti ciemati līdzīgi kā Āraišu ezerpils gadījumā.

The memorial site with a 1936 monument produced by the sculptor Kārlis Zāle is located in Smārde near the Smārde-Tukums road.  It commemorates 38 soldiers who fell during World War I.  Between 1915 and 1917, the front line was near Smārde.  Many men were killed, and they were buried at the local swamp.  It was only after the war that they were reburied in Smārde, Kūdra, Ķemeri, and Sloka.
