The Castle was built beside the Põltsamaa River in the 13th C and became the residence of Duke Magnus, King of Livonia in the 16th C. In the castle yard you find the tourist information centre, local history museum, wine cellar, Estonian Press Museum, art gallery, ceramic and handicraft workshop. |

The trail tells about grey dunes which have survived thanks to the border restrictions and the presence of military. The trail starts from the parking place at the mouth of the Užava river. It is one of the few natural rivermouths in Europe. One can also see the „tacis”, an industrial installation for lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis) fishing during their spawning migration period. The 3km long trail is circular. It winds for 1.5km from the Užava rivermouth to the North, along the coastline (the beach is covered with sand and pebbles), and returns to the starting point by a gravel road through grey dunes. Along the trail, one can observe a distinct white dune with rare plant species Linaria loeselii, Lathyrus maritimus, Anthyllis arenaria, Tragopogon heterospermus. About 1km from the rivermouth, in the sea, one can see a wrack of a sailing ship (parts of frame). The visibility depends on the flow of sand in the sea. The way back opens a beautiful view of the range of grey dunes. Unfortunately, Scots Pine starts taking over the area. There are three important biotopes of EU significance: „Fixed dunes with herbaceous vegetation 2130”, „Decalcified fixed dunes with Empetrum nigrum 2140” and „Dunes with Salix arenaria 2170”, forming a unique mosaic. Typical species here: mountain Alison ‘(Alyssum gmelinii), Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla pratensis), Sand Pink (Dianthus arenarius), Rosemary Leaved Willow (Salix rosmarinifolia), Dark Red Helleborine (Epipactis atrorubens), Kinnikinnick (Arctostaphylus uva-ursi). As a former military site, some military constructions can be seen here like horseshoe-shaped sand ramparts by the road in gray dunes. They were built to disguise military vehicles in case of sea attack. By the Kangroti graveyard, towards the Užava river, there is an underground pillbox. Another monument designed by Kārlis Zemdega, this one was installed in 1937 and was initially known as a monument to soldiers who liberated and fell in Rūjiena. The monument survived the Soviet era only because a statue of Lenin that was across the street was on a high pedestal and thus overshadowed the monument to the trumpeter of Talava. |

The saloon is on the Rīga-Liepāja highway (A9) at the 72nd km road marker. Live music evenings are organised. Latvian cuisine: Vidzeme salad, herring with cottage cheese and soured cream, grey peas with bacon, sautéed cabbage with sausages, cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, bread soup, stacked rye bread. Akmensraga tāpat kā Kolkasraga apkaime jau kopš seniem laikiem ir bijusi zināma kā kuģotājiem bīstama vieta, jo te atrodas viena no lielākajām Latvijas piekrastes kuģu kapsētām. Bīstamības fakts slēpjas apstāklī, ka Akmensraga apkārtnē mainās krasta virziens un jūrā iestiepjas akmeņaini sēkļi. Pirmo signāluguni Akmensragā iededza 1879. g., bet 10 gadus vēlāk uzcēla 28 m augstu koka bāku. 1911. g. uzcēla mūra bāku, kuru sagrāva 1. pasaules kara laikā – 1916. g. Mūsdienās redzamā (augstums 37,5 m, uzbūvēta 1921. g.). Padomju laikā visas bākas bija militāri – stratēģiski objekti un šeit strādāja hidrogrāfiskais dienests un jūras novērošanas punkts. Bākas apkārtnē - mežā vēl joprojām redzamas bijušās padomju armijas ēku drupas. Apskatāma no iekšpuses. |

The "Pastnieka maja" restaurant is an old restored building in Old Liepāja. Legend has it that a postal carrier named Arvīds used to live there, and the building has been praised for its interior design. The menu offers an attractive look at the life of Arvīds, and it is up to you to believe or disbelieve those stories.
