On the left bank of the ancient Gauja River valley, between the Paparžu ravine and the ravine along which the Sigulda-Turaida road passes through the valley there are the ruins of a castle built by the Order of the Brethren of the Sword. Construction on the castle began in 1207, and three decades later, in 1236, the castle was rebuilt for the needs of the Livonian Order. The Sigulda Castle suffered much damage during wars in the late 16th and early 17th century. During the Great Northern War, it was burned down and never restored. What is there today is the south-western segment of the castle's convent building, as well as the tower of the main gate. Beyond that is the internal forecastle, where there is an open-air stage for the annual Sigulda Opera Music Festival and other public events. There are also impressive views of the ancient Gauja River valley, Krimulda and Turaida. Reconstruction of the ruins is currently ongoing, and after the work is completed a second tower on the left side of the stage will be available to visitors. The plan is to install crossings around the walls of the convent building. Presently the ruins are available on a 24/7 basis and free of charge, but after the restorations are completed in 2012, admission will be charged. |

The zenith missile brigade and its communications headquarters were used for the provision, planning and co-ordination of radio communications. The object is all but abandoned, but it is owned by the Latvian Repatriation Centre and the Christian Mission.

Latgale Farmstead „Mežmalas”. The owners of the farmstead created an interesting collection of the old
household items, tools and equipment of the 19th and 20th century. The visitors are offered to try plainting of

Ģipka is a village that once was the site of the first maritime school in Kurzeme. It was opened in 1869, just a few years after a similar school in Ainaži. This was a Category 2 maritime school, which trained helmsmen for long-distance trips and captains for short-distance trips. The school was moved to Mazirbe in 1894. Before the maritime school, the building housed a different kind of school, and a second floor was added in 1867 specifically for the maritime school. Today this is a residential building. The small Andrupene swamp is found to the North of the Andrupene Farm Museum in a deep area between hillocks. It is a high-type swamp with an open central part, and it is 130 m long and 120 m wide. There are stands of white alder alongside the swamp. In 2009, the administrators of the Rāzna National Park restored a wooden educational pathway that had been established originally by the Andrupene Elementary School. Today there are stairs, a viewing platform, wooden pathways, and information stands. |

Also known as Lake Jēsis or Lake Iesis, this is the lake in Latvia which has the largest number of islands. Many literary sources and encyclopaedias in the 20th century claimed that there were 69 islands in the lake, but that was an exaggeration, because apparently the authors took sandbars overgrown with reeds and other plants to be islands. The true number is approximately two times lesser. The largest number of islands can be found in the north-eastern part of the lake. The largest one is Lielā Lāča (Big Bear) Island (45 ha). A farm was on the island at one time. The islands and the oak trees that are on the shores of the lake – the Piļoru and Pahatnīku stands of trees – are in a restricted environmental reserve. |

A place where you can enjoy nature and food. The tavern Kogre got its name from Seven Fish Soup - crucian (koger), is the seventh fish. The owner is a fisherman, and together with his wife he prepares various dishes from his catch. |

A shop and café, located in the fish market in Ragaciems, offers dried meats, meat and snack platters, and other culinary delicacies made from home-made products. It is a meeting place, as has long been the case in markets, where buyers meet producers and farmers. An outdoor terrace is open during the summer season. |

The owner offers groups of various sizes a chance to go to the sea in a fisherman’s boat and to watch shoreline fishing, as well. The lamprey eel weirs that are on the Svētupe River differ from those on the Salaca River in terms of their structure and the fishing principles. During the season, the owner prepares tasty smoked lamprey eels. |

The area of the ancient Piusa River valley that is between the villages of Vana-Vastseliina and Ignasõ is around 15 km long, features some substantial rapids, and offers a view of beautiful Devonian period cliffs. The largest, Härma müür, is 43 metres high and is the highest sandstone cliff in Estonia. There are caves from old mines in the village of Piusa. A small part of the mines, which have tunnels that are more than 10 km long in all, has been tured into a local museum.

This is an unusual farm, one with no electricity (its owners use candle lanterns and petroleum lamps), with all work done by hand. Visitors can watch the milking of goats, the subsequent handling of milk, and the production of cheese. They can help to harness horses, try out sleds on wheels, and work with a scythe and a sickle. Livestock raised in the Latvian countryside can be viewed. |
