Along the A9 road and 500 metres from the turn in the direction of Rīga in Lestene is a memorial by Ojārs Feldbergs which was set up in 1991 in the former Rumbas homestead to commemorate defenders of the Kurzeme fortress.  Despite the fact that the Soviet forces were ten times larger, the Latvian troops allowed some 300,000 Latvian war refugees to escape the horrors of the Soviet Union.

This tower is on the shores of the ancient Litorine Sea, with a lovely view of the unique seashore here – complete with small bays and capes. It is part of the Kaltene nature trail, which is around one kilometre long. The location is of particular interest during spring or autumn migration of birds. Two other bird-watching platforms are nearby.

Located in a cultural centre at Brīvības Street 15 in Ogre, the museum was established in 1980 and has a permanent exhibition, “Ogre – a Swimming and Air Spa, Relaxation and Everyday Life, 1920-1940,” which offers a good look at the “golden age” of Ogre, when it was a popular spa.  Another exhibition, “Legendary Ogre” offers a different view.  Visit the museum to find out what it is!

Višķi is a populated area that started as the Višķi Estate and received the status of a village in the 19th century.  An agricultural school was opened there in 1921, followed by a one-year homemaking school in 1926.  During World War II, in 1943, the Višķi Gardening and Beekeeping School was established.  After the war, the Višķi Gardening (later Agricultural) Technical School was opened.  Because of these educational activities, Višķi ir not similar to a typical countryside village.  There is a wide area of lovely plants, including a dendrological park (est. 1936) and apple orchards.  A local guide will tell you all about the park, but you can also stroll through the village individually.

From Riga the tour goes through historic sea resort Jurmala to Pure Chocolate museum where you could see production and taste some. Then the tour goes to Sabile where there is small Wine Hill which history dates back to 16th century. You visit local wine producer who will show his gardens and talk about grape growing in the Latvian climate nowadays. Afterwards tasting of the seasonally available drinks. Then you visit small picturesque town Kuldiga and have some wine tasting there. Next day there are eco wine tasting at Aizpute and Durbe and then go to the city of Liepaja with lovely sandy beach, arty atmosphere and significant military heritage at Karaosta suburb. Then the route follows up the coast line. At Pavilosta you have a trip in traditional fishermen boat and at Alsunga singing and demonstration of local traditions by Suiti women. Culturally colourful community which heritage is listed in UNESCO. Then walk along the steep sea cost at Jurkalne and enjoy the best maintained port town of Ventspils. Next day there is a visit to local fishermen and see fish smoking process, then walk along Cape Kolka where the open sea meets the Riga Bay. Turning back to Riga you have a visit and tasting at wine maker in Talsi.

This lime swamp of grasses is in an area among dunes which floods from time to time, and it is an important location for many protected plants. The swamp is easily surveyed from the forested dunes which are on the south-eastern side of the swamp.

This is the largest exhibition in the Baltic States to feature the Semigalian material culture during the Iron Age.  There is a wealth of ornamentations, weapons and household objects, including the largest collection of swords in the Baltic States.  The exhibition is housed in the rebuilt defensive rooms of the wooden castle of Tērvete which existed here in the 12th century.  During the second weekend of each August, there is an international Semigalian festival which is the largest Medieval festival in the Baltic States.

No Vecās pasta ēkas ir redzama Sv. Jāņa kolonna. Domājams, ka tā celta 17. gs. un sākotnēji kalpoja kā blakus esošā tirgus laukuma „ziņojumu vieta”. Vēlāk kolonnu pārdēvēja Sv. Jāņa - zvejnieku aizbildņa vārdā, jo daudziem Traķu apkārtnes iedzīvotājiem zveja bija ikdienas dzīves sastāvdaļa.

The Castle is a theme park depicting life of the 16th C stronghold where families can spend an exciting day as soldiers and noble knights. There is horse riding, bow and crossbow shooting, you can practise carpentry and blacksmith skills, mint coins, make gold and gunpowder. A tour of professional farms to offer a look at modern and technologically developed farms.  During the introductory day, participants will tour Rīga, which is part of the UNESCO List of World Heritage, and the Rīga Central Market, which is one of the largest closed markets of its type in Europe.  The next day there will be a meeting with specialists from the Latvian Agriculture Ministry and agricultural NGOs.  Next we will tour an ecological facility for farm waste, which is a pan-European initiative in the context of which heat that is manufactured is used to heat greenhouses, thus ensuring an ideal environment for farming (flowers and tomatoes).  We will visit innovative farms that collect birch juice for products such as biological birch juice wine (rose, semi-sec), biological birch juice foaming wine, birch juice lemonade, and syrup.  The next morning will begin with a visit to a farm that produces high-quality vegetables and potatoes, successfully dealing with the storage and sale of it produce, as well as with logistical aspects of the process.  Along the way, we will visit the ruins of the Koknese castle, which is on the banks of Latvia’s legendary Daugava River.  We will also visit a farm that grows hemp for various food products.  We will spend the night at an aristocratic estate that is now a complex for accommodations and spa treatments.  The next morning, we will be off to one of Latvia’s newest beer breweries for a tour and tastings.  Around noon, we will visit a farm that manufactures co-generated biomass head during the winter and heats greenhouses.  We will return to Rīga in the evening.

The Boulder of Subinaite can be found in Sakstagala rural municipality opposite Vaļenieku House that is on the left side of the river Rēzekne. The base of the boulder is below the river level; it is 5,2 m long, 4,4 m wide, it rises about 1,6 m above the water level, about 2,5 m below the water level, capacity 26 m3. Reddish surface is heavily eroded and full of moss. Protected since 1977.
