Found on the right bank of the Saka River at Dzintaru Street 1, the museum is in the first red brick and fieldstone building in Pāvilosta. It was built in 1879 for ship pilots. The museum focuses on the history of the local region, particularly in terms of fishing and seafaring. Among the exhibits are stone and bone axes, bronze brooches and belts, as well as a unique honey press, all of which have been found in the Saka Parish. Alongside the museum is a boathouse with larger exhibits. A mansard that was opened in 2012 is a site for exhibitions and thematic events. The museum’s phone number is +371-6349-8276. Make sure that you also visit the oldest part of Pāvilosta – Āķgals, which is a typical coastline village from the 19th and early 20th century. |

Setomaa has been inhabited for about 8,400 years, which makes it one of the oldest human settlements in Estonia. It is located on the border of Eastern and Western civilisations, bordering Russia, Latvia and Estonia. Setomaa is famous for its well-preserved traditions and culture. For centuries the local handicraft skills have been passed down within families. Seto polyphonic singing (Seto leelo) is inscribed on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Setos have distinctive national costumes, rich in detail and unique to each family. Perhaps most impressive is the distinctive array of Seto jewellery. These visually striking pieces not only reflect the social standing of the wearer but are also worn as a safeguard from misfortune. To this day, the Seto lifestyle remains closely tied to nature. It is common practice for the Seto not only to enjoy the natural beauty of the forest but to also use its gifts. Berries and mushrooms are picked freely in their seasons. It is best to start the tour from Võru and finish in Tartu. |

Karaims are a small nation of Turkish decent who practise The Karaim religion which started developing around 8th century in Persia. Their language is still used in modern-day Lithuania. In the museum there are rooms not only dedicated to Lithuanian Karaite communities but also Poland's and Ukraine's. |

Under the guidance of a craftsman it is possible to work with traditional wood-working tools and get to know ancient games. Before the stone Turaida Castle was built beginning in 1214, there was a wooden castle there that had been built by the Livs. The Turaida Castle was owned by the bishop of Rīga. It remained in place until 1776, when it burned down. The initial entrance to the castle's main tower was 9 m above ground, and in 1936, a viewing platform was installed at a height of 27 metres. There is no other view in Latvia that is like the one from the Turaida Castle! Restoration work at the castle began in 1953, when the upper level of the tower was restored and a roof was installed. Also restored was the former granary, which was home to an exhibition about the Sigulda region, along with the semi-circular tower and the southern segment of the castle complex, complete with the full reconstruction of its historical interior. Archaeological work was done around the castle between 1976 and 2001, and this led to the restoration of a large part of the complex. The castle now contains a museum exhibition related to the historical events of the surrounding area. The Turaida Castle is in the Turaida Museum Reserve (see above). |

This is a site where you can try out ancient weapons – bows and crossbows (a reproduction of items from the 14th and 15th century), throwing an axe (replicas of German axes from the 13th century), and spears. Once you’ve learned how to handle those weapons, you can also forge a copy of a Medieval coin. You can try on copies of armoured caps and gloves and have your picture taken with a sword or battle axe. For larger groups, the enterprise will organise ancient sports and table games.

Open landscape area within farming lands on both banks of Uzava River about 10 km before it flows into the Baltic Sea. There is a good open view over the area from the Vendzava-Ziri road going through the nature park. Protection of migratory birds and corncrakes has been one of the main reasons for establishment of the nature park. Bird watching is possible from the road Vendzava-Ziri during migration period in spring and fall. There is no tourist infrastructure in the nature park.

Starpiņupīte is an artificial canal
between Lake Kaņieris and the Bay of
Rīga. It helps to regulate the water level in
the lake with a system of locks. This is a
fine place for birdwatching in the spring
and autumn. From the sea, the location
can be identified via the place where the
little river flows into the sea.

The old Kolkasrags lighthouse is just a set of ruins right now. The
lighthouse at the tip of the horn was built in the 16th century and
renovated several times. The ruins are slowly decaying because of storms
and ice during the winter. They had been standing well away from the
shoreline once, but now are slowly disappearing under water.

The Ukri forest on the border of the Dobele district is what is known as a vast forest. It has oak trees (including many huge ones), linden trees, oak trees (large stands of oak are uncommon in Latvia), and other deciduous trees. A small area of the forest can be toured in the company of a guide to look at the animals of the area and their importance in the flow of nature. The restricted area protects forest habitats, plants and animals, including many that are typical of the southern areas of Latvia. |
