This tour includes a walk along the Baltic Sea coast Lithuania through the Curonian Spit from Nida to Smiltynė (see a detailed description under tour No. 9) and continues further north from Klaipėda to Šventoji located at the Lithuanian/Latvian border. Klaipėda and Palanga are popular seaside resorts with lots of pubs, hotels, street cafés and musicians. Klaipėda is the only port city and the third largest city in Lithuania. Šventoji is also a popular seaside town located next to the mouth of the river Šventoji. Between Klaipėda and Palanga, the Baltic Coastal Hiking Route leads through the Seaside Regional Park (Lithuanian: Pajūrio regioninis parkas). It was founded for the protection of coastal and marine landscapes, biodiversity and local cultural heritage. The most famous place of the seaside is the Dutch Hat (also called Dutch Cap, Dutchman’s Cap or Holland’s Cap) – a 20 m high cliff, which used to serve as a landmark and guide for seafarers and fishermen. |

In the beginning you will see how grain is turned into flour with the help of water, and afterwards you will be able to bake your own bread in the bakery. The saloon is in the centre of Jelgava alongside the bridge over the Driksa River, where there is a new shoreline promenade. This is one of comparatively few castle hills along the banks of the Daugava River that is not overgrown with trees and bushes, which means that it has a classical castle hill form that is part of the local landscape. The Dignāja castle hill was settled during several periods, particularly between the 5th and the 9th century AD, when it was an important centre. Archaeologists have found that Lettigalian tribes lived here. After the Holy Crusade invasion, the Livonian Order built a castle on the hill that has not survived. It is said that there was once an underground passageway under the hill. The hill itself offers a lovely view of the Daugava River valley. World War I trenches have been preserved the area. There was once a settlement at the foot of the hill. |

The windmill was built between 1867 and 1869 after a design first produced in the Netherlands. Its name is that of its first owner – Riba. The windmill is one of the best preserved architectural monuments of its type in Latvia, and it offers an educational exhibition, “The Path of the Grain.” It talks about the development of agriculture in Zemgale and about grain farming and the baking of bread. Guided tours are available. The windmill is part of the Rožmalas leisure complex, which features a hotel and a restaurant. |

This farm has more than 20 years of experience with beekeeping products and their sale. Groups of tourists can tour the farm with the help of a knowledgeable guide.
