15.janvāra naktī Kalpaka bataljons izcīnīja pirmo kauju pie Lielauces, atvairot sarkano uzbrukumu. Tā bija pirmā nozīmīgā Kalpaka bataljona kauja, kad uzvara karavīriem deva īpaši spēcīgu morālu stimulu. 1934. gada 19. augustā pie Lielauces luterāņu baznīcas atklāja pelēkā granītā veidoto pieminekli Oskara Kalpaka bataljona pirmās kaujas vietā. Piemiņas zīme veidota pēc arhitekta P. Dreimaņa meta. Lielauces kauja notika 1919. gada naktī no 15. uz 16. janvāri starp kalpakiešu Cēsu un Virsnieku rotu no vienas puses un 2. strēlnieku pulka karavīriem. 50. gadu sākumā piemineklis tika iznīcināts, bet atjaunots 1991. gadā |

Known as Alšvanga in the past, this place was mentioned for the first time in 1231 in an agreement that was signed between the deputy legate of the pope in Rome and the Courlandian tribes of the region. The Livonian Order ruled the territory until 1561, and from 1573 until 1738 the order’s castle belonged to the von Schwerin dynasty from Pomerania. It during the rule of this aristocratic family that a stone church was built in honour of Archangel Michael, and local residents began to convert to Catholicism. Alsunga became the Catholic centre for all of Kurzeme, and local residents became known as the Suiti (from the Schwerin suite). For nearly 400 years, Alsunga has been the historical centre of the Suiti territory. This is Latvia’s most conservative region and is widely known with unusual songs, colourful folk costumes and various folk traditions and beliefs. The Suiti have their own dialect, foods and many other things that have been long since abandoned or forgotten elsewhere in Latvia. The religious has commingled with the folk here in one unique whole. The Alsunga District covers 191 km2 and has some 1,500 residents. |

Beautiful views are accessible from the Sabile castle hill (steps, a location for relaxation), Upurkalns Hill (no improvements) and Briņķpedvāle, which part of the Pedvāle Open-Air Art Museum. There are also the Drubaži nature trails. The road between Kandava and Sabile which runs along the right bank of the Abava and the Aizdzire-Kalnmuiža road which runs on the left bank of the Abava also offer beautiful landscapes.

You will start your hike from the popular Latvian spa town of Jūrmala. The route is great for those who like to hike along the coastline, with former fishing villages full of unique coastline charm, as well as lonely and seldom visited beaches. Many villages have small smokehouses where dried fish can be bought. Your destination is Cape Kolka, which the father of Latvia’s maritime school, Krišjānis Valdemārs, considered to be the centre of Europe. In the barn of Padure manor (the only one three-storey barn in Latvia built in the empire style) the groups of tourists are offered kocha (a substantial pearl barley porridge with onions and meat), differents soups (fish, sorrel), dumplings, cheese and differents sweet dishes. The tasting of home-made wine. For those interested, the owner will tell about yearly traditions, as well as the barn’s history. Latvian cuisine: Fish and sorrel soup, sweet and savoury dumplings, pork ribs, cheeses, desserts, homemade wine. Special foods: A hearty pearl barley porridge with onions and meat. |

Jaunciems has always been a small village, and only a few homes are populated today. Nearby there are leisure locations on the right bank of the Irbe River. Jaunciems is linked to Sīkrags by the former tracks of the narrow-gauge train. There is also a bridge for hikers and bicyclists. |

The tower is in the western part of the Vasenieki swamp, and an interesting nature trail with information stands and pathways was recently established there. The tower offers a look at unique swampland – visitors can survey the entire swamp. Wear proper footwear when it is damp outside!

Kolga Manor with its impressive territory, several buildings and antique feel will not leave you unmoved! Kolga Manor was first heard about in 13th century but the manor we see nowadays was built style of Baroque in 17 - 18th century but in 1820's it was re-built in the style of Classicism. From the end of 17th century until 20th century it was the biggest Estonian manor. Now in these buildings is a guesthouse, a restaurant, conference centre and a museum. It's possible to hire a guide. |

The loveliest views of the local cultural and historical treasures (the Āraiši lake castle, the Lutheran church, the parsonage, Medieval castle ruins – all of these cultural monuments).
