The Aknīste Regional Research Museum is at the corner of Skolas and Miera streets in Aknīste. It is another location which will very much help you to learn about the culture and history of the Selonian region. The museum was established in 1998 and featured antiquities from the Iron Age and Bronze Age, as well as objects which speak to distinguished people from the region and Selonian culture. It is worth looking at the collection of ancient Selonian dishware. |

In Soviet years, Ventspils was the site of tank training. The facility has been degraded, and only the former tank repair facility and some outbuildings are still being used. The rest of the territory is not used or guarded any more.

There are ancient cheese-making traditions in Cesvaine, where the Cesvaines Dairy was established on the basis of the historical Cesvaine Estate dairy operation. The company produces butter, cottage cheese, cheese, home cheese and soured cream. The “Pie Arkas” store that is alongside the dairy sells those products. |

This is a fairly unique territory in Latvia – a vast forest of oak trees (many of them very large, indeed), linden trees, elms and various other deciduous trees. In the company of a forest guide, the visitor can walk through a small part of the forest, learning about the inhabitants of the area and their importance. This is an environmentally protected zone.

A Nazi concentration camp was at this location during World War II, and there is information to suggest that more than 50,000 residents of occupied Europe were murdered here. This is one of the largest ensembles of its type, taking up 25 hectares of land. It was opened in 1967 and has large groups of sculptures, including “Mother,” “Solidarity,” “Unbroken One” and “The Path of Suffering.” The wall of the entrance gates has a thematic exhibitions. |

This park was set up to protect the landscape and cultural environment of the Haanja highland. At the central part of the park are the two highest hills in the Baltic States – Suur Munamägi, which stands 318 m above sea level, and Vällamägi, which is 304 m above sea level. The ancient Rõuge River valley (Rõuge ürgorg) is found in the western part of the park. It is 7.5 km long and up to 60 m deep. The valley dates back to the Ice Age, and it has seven lakes, including the deepest one (38 m) in Estonia – Lake Rõuge Suurjärv.

Iespējams apskatīt Kroņvircavas muižas kompleksu, kas bija pēdējā Kurzemes un Zemgales hercoga Pētera Bīrona lauku īpašums ar pili. Vispilnīgāk no muižas kompleksa ēkām saglabājušās Kavalieru māja, Pārvaldnieka māja, kurā tagad vietu radis projekts “Muižas istabas”, klēts-magazīna, stallis. Kroņvircavas muižas apbūve ir Valsts aizsardzības objekts. Pili ieskāva liels baroka stila parks ar ūdens parteru, kas kā muižas dārzs sākts ierīkot 1693. gadā. Šobrīd “Muižas istabās” saimnieko ģimene, kas vēlas saglabāt autentiskās mājas vērtības, iedzīvināt džezu uz “Muižas istabu” improvizētās skatuves, izstādīt mākslinieku darbus un svinēt svētkus. Dabas parks, kura lielāko daļu aizņem neprastās formas un līčiem bagātais Cārmaņa (arī Cārmins) ezers. Ezera ūdens ir ļoti tīrs, tādēļ tajā sastopamas Latvijai retas augu sabiedrības. Tā kā parka teritorijā nav tūristiem veidota infrastruktūra, interesenti var baudīt skatus, kas paveras uz ezera un tā apkārtni no Aulejas – Grāveru ceļa.

Tāpat kā Ventspils Rātslaukums, arī Tirgus laukums ir uzskatāms par pilsētas vēsturiskā centra nozīmīgu daļu, kura apkaimē ir saglabājies senais ielu plānojums. Kādreizējā Rātsnama vietā tagad slejas kariljonu zvana pulksteņu tornis. Tas zvana katru stundu, bet 12:33:44 un 00:33:44 ar īpašu melodiju ieskandina astronomisko Ventspils laiku. The tower is in the western part of the Vasenieki swamp, and an interesting nature trail with information stands and pathways was recently established there. The tower offers a look at unique swampland – visitors can survey the entire swamp. Wear proper footwear when it is damp outside!

The chef's house is located in the former Līgatne Maternity Hospital "Wilhelma". It is intended as a place for chefs as well as other interested parties to do, create and experiment. The author of the idea is chef Ēriks Dreibants. The aim of this place is to encourage you to explore and discover the unique tastes and experiences of our region. The chef's house supports the slow food philosophy and the surrounding farmers and producers. Next to the house there is a Nature Observers' Garden, where there is a playground "Nest in the Tree", a magnifying glass for a closer look at the elements of nature, and a picnic area with a fireplace. There is an herb garden in the garden, fruit trees and berry bushes have been compiled, but in the center of it, next to the Bird Watching Square, there is a Butterfly Meadow. |
