Preiļu Siers is the largest cheese manufacturer in Latvia and exports 90% of its output. There are three “Preilis” stores in the town (Daugavpils Street 66A, Tirgus laukums 5, Rēzeknes iela 15) where are the widest range of Preiļu Siers products. Three kind of tastings of cheese "Čedars" produced in Preiļi, as well as "Čedars" cheese ice cream and a movie about the company are offered by local home producers "Pampūkas" beach terrace cafe, located in the active part of the city - beach area of Preiļi Park (pre-registration by phone 25867735, runs from the second Sunday of May till the second Sunday of September). In Preiļi , next to A/S "Preiļu siers" factory (Daugavpils iela 75) is one of few monuments to cheese in the world – the only one of its kind in Latvia. There are only four monuments for cheese in the world, two of them located in France, and one in each - Canada and USA. Therefore Preili can safely be called the cheese capital of Latvia. |

This is one of the most outstanding areas in the entire Baltic States with active underground waterways which still, to this very day, dissolve local gypsum rock. Parts of the area collapse regularly, and there are legends about all of this. Underwater rivers, streams, the so-called Karvės (Cow) cave, etc., can be seen in the area.

They work together since 1996. The members are knitting woollen socks, mittens, scarfs, sweaters, embroider sofa cushions, blankets, table cloths, paint on scarfs and ties, weaves blankets, towels, carpets, bookmarks, crochet toys, clothing, blankets as well as creates wickerwork and wooden ware, they demonstrate the baking process of traditional Latvian sklandrauši and tea making. The knitters from the organisation created the traditional mittens for the NATO summit guests in Riga. The visitors can view the different products, learn different crafts, bake sklandrauši and make different tea mixes themselves. They also offer excursions in the renovated Ance’s manor castle. |

This is the second largest rock in the Baltic States in terms of size (728 m3). It is the only rock in the Baltic States with this form and size. It is 7 m high, 19 m long, 11 m wide, and 58 m in perimeter. Kabelikivi looks like a cliff that is halfway sunk into the earth. During the Ice Age, the rock “travelled” to this location from southern Finland. It is made of granite, and there are two other very impressive rocks alongside it.

This tour will take you exploring the peculiar island of Rusnė and the delta of the river Nemunas in Lithuania. The island of Rusnė in the Nemunas Delta Regional Park is enclosed by waters of the river Nemunas and its tributaries. It is a resting place for migratory birds and home to a cormorant colony. The area of the island is 45 km2 and it is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The island of Rusnė is the lowest place in Lithuania, lying below sea level. The historic centre of the town Rusnė is characteristic of authentic wooden architecture, buildings painted in bright colours, colourful window shutters and decorations. The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route leads through the small town of Šilutė, revealing architecture that was once common to East Prussia. From Šilutė to Kintai, the Baltic Coastal Hiking Route runs along a low plain. To protect this area from flood waters of Nemunas, there is a system of dams, polders and canals established. After crossing the river Minija, the route invites you to visit the ethnographic village of Minija. Here you can enjoy the lowland landscape of the seaside region with vast wetlands and ponds. |

Vecauces ev. lut. baznīca ir valsts nozīmes arhitektūras piemineklis. Baznīca pirmo reizi uzcelta kā koka būve 1667. gadā, bet pēc zibens spēriena 1729. gadā tā nodega. Mūra baznīca celta 1744. gadā, savukārt 1866.gadā Mēdemu valdīšanas laikā baznīcu paplašināja līdz 500 sēdvietām, izgatavoja jaunu altāri, kanceli un uzstādīja Liepājas ērģeļmeistara Kārļa Hermaņa būvētas ērģeles. meklētājiem piedāvā doties interesantā, izklaidējošā un informatīvā ekskursijā pa baznīcu, apskatot ekspozīciju "Auce pirmās Latvijas brīvvalsts laikā" un baznīcas bibliotēku (Baznīcas grāmatas (pirmās Latvijas brīvvalsts laiks – 1918.-40.g., vācu laiks, padomju laiks un šodiena)). In 1944, between November 14 and December 9, there were fierce battles between SD and SS units from the German 16th Army, under the command of Police General Friedrich Jekeln, and a separate battalion of the Kurelians, under the command of Lt Roberts Rubenis. The battles were waged in the Ugāle, Usma, Renda and Zlēki parishes. Rubenis’ men were well-armed and organised. There were more than 600 troops, and the soldiers saw themselves as a national force which stood apart from the two hostile occupant regimes. This was the longest and most extensive battle in the history of Latvian national resistance. As the military force of the Latvian Central Council, the unit enjoyed extensive public support and confirmed a high level of morality in fighting for the restoration of a democratic Latvia. The historical centre of Talsi, which is known as the town of nine hillocks. The historical construction around Baznīckalns hill, Lake Talsi and Lake Vilkmuiža mostly dates back to the 19th century. Lielā Street is particularly beautiful with its low-rise buildings (two or three floors and ridged roofs). There are beautiful views from the area around Lake Talsi and Ķēniņkalns hill. |
