This route is best for active hikers who want to travel down the valley of the mightiest river in the Baltic States to see lovely landscapes and feel powerful emotions. The route begins in Sigulda, which has been known as the Switzerland of Vidzeme and offers some of the loveliest views in Latvia. The route crosses the deep valleys of several Gauja River territory, offering a look at shores that are known at the Baltic level for their mighty Devonian cliffs. The nature trails in Līgatne are the only place in Latvia to see forestland that is close to natural circumstances, with forest animals living in large fenced areas so that they can be seen. AS Agrofirma Tērvete is the largest multi-sector farming company in Latvia, operating in crop farming, dairy farming, horse breeding, public dining, biogas manufacturing and brewing of beer. Visitors can tour a brewery and the farm. The brewery produces popular Tērvete beer and kvass. Visitors can taste the products and take a small tour of the facilities. All of the types of beer can be tasted with delicious snacks. The Tērces farm is a dairy farm with modern technologies and 3,000 dairy cows. Visitors can tour the facility and have lunch at the company’s dining hall. |

Preiļu Siers is the largest cheese manufacturer in Latvia and exports 90% of its output. There are three “Preilis” stores in the town (Daugavpils Street 66A, Tirgus laukums 5, Rēzeknes iela 15) where are the widest range of Preiļu Siers products. Three kind of tastings of cheese "Čedars" produced in Preiļi, as well as "Čedars" cheese ice cream and a movie about the company are offered by local home producers "Pampūkas" beach terrace cafe, located in the active part of the city - beach area of Preiļi Park (pre-registration by phone 25867735, runs from the second Sunday of May till the second Sunday of September). In Preiļi , next to A/S "Preiļu siers" factory (Daugavpils iela 75) is one of few monuments to cheese in the world – the only one of its kind in Latvia. There are only four monuments for cheese in the world, two of them located in France, and one in each - Canada and USA. Therefore Preili can safely be called the cheese capital of Latvia. |

Muižas nosaukums cēlies no vācu Hof zum Berg – „Kalnu muiža”. Pēdējie muižas īpašnieki līdz 1. pasaules karam bija grāfu Šahno dzimtas pārstāvji. Viens no tiem – Marians Šahno 1910. gadā uzceļ muižas pili, kas bija būvēta eklektisma formās. Daļēji nojaukta tā pārdzīvo padomju laikus, līdz 2002. gadā nodeg. Līdz mūsdienām saglabājušās vien ēkas sienas, kuras slēpj biezs augājs. Var tikai iedomāties, kādi skati šeit kādreiz pavērušies uz Daugavas ieleju! The estate of 12 buildings and a park has survived almost completely to this very day. The main building of the estate was erected on a largish oval island in the 1840s, and it has a moat all around it. This was meant to resemble fortified Medieval castles. The mansion is currently home to the local parish government, library and post office. Visitors can take a tour of the estate and its surroundings. There are stories about the estate to say that the baron had a beautiful daughter who, like the Rose of Turaida, refused to obey her father's instructions. A legendary location which is said to have
been the site of a lake which, in 1838, was poured into the sea. When the
water was gone, remnants of ancient tree stumps and ships were found at
the bottom of the lake.

This farm rears goats and produces various goat’s milk dairy products, making goat’s cheese and other products from fresh ingredients. The farm also grows potatoes, juicy strawberries and other products. The summer outhouse provides space for 15 to 20 people to sit cosily by the table and chat. A light meal made from 100% farm products is offered. |

The Lūžņa radio equipment company was part of the Naval Border Guard in Soviet Times. The car park in the centre of Lūžņa offers a fine view of the former military complex. Some buildings are used as apartment buildings at this time.
