Santa Lasmane owns a farm near Lake Jumurda and manufactured goat’s cheese from 40 dairy goats (60 goats in all).  You can buy the cheese there and at local markets.  Products are delivered on demand.  You can tour the farm, meeting Bonija the goat and her friends, and taste the cheese.

В наше время берега национального парка «Слитере» образно наывают геологическим музеем Балтийского моря под открытым небом, так как здесь можно увидеть древний берег Балтийского ледникового озера, береговой уступ Анцильского озера и дюнные образования Литоринского моря (валообразные дюны (кангари) и заболоченные междюновые впадины (виги)), которые наглядно отображают историю развития Балтийского моря за последние 10 000 лет. Этот берег исторически населяли ливы, рыбацкие поселки которых являются значимой культурной средой одного из самых малых национальных меньшинств в мире. Маршрут на участке от Мазирбе до Колки ведет по старой прибрежной дороге, которая петляет через ливские поселки – Кошрагс, Питрагс, Саунагс и Вайде. Национальный парк «Слитере» – одна из наиболее флорестически богатых территорий Латвии, а мыс Колка – одно из популярнейших мест для наблюдения за птицами во время их миграции.

The “Lamb Club” is a farm in Mazsalaca, and it is special because the sheep live in a real club!  The owners offer the atmosphere of a farm at which the sheep play major roles.  Enjoy mutton and sheep milk foods and beverages, feel how comfortable it is to read your favourite while sitting on a fluffy sheepskin, and, in order not to get cold by the campfire in the evening, you can purchase warm woollen socks and woven woollen cloaks.

The owners hope that people from Latvia and all around the world will spend more time at the farm, because accommodations involve a new glamping tent that is as close as possible to nature and the healthy rural environment.  Don’t lose a lick of the comfort that you are used to in your everyday life!

The owners, Ilze and Valters, will be happy to give you a tour during which they talk about herding sheep.  If you contact them in advance, they will prepare a tasty mutton meal for you.  The tour can also be supplemented with various activities such as games, quizzes and creative workshops at which sheep wool is utilised.

The Boulder of Subinaite can be found in Sakstagala rural municipality opposite Vaļenieku House that is on the left side of the river Rēzekne. The base of the boulder is below the river level; it is 5,2 m long, 4,4 m wide, it rises about 1,6 m above the water level, about 2,5 m below the water level, capacity 26 m3. Reddish surface is heavily eroded and full of moss. Protected since 1977.

The Northern Forts of Liepāja are on the edge of the Baltic Sea, and some parts of them have been washed away. This is a small, but very impressive part of the Liepāja fortifications which once encircled the entire town. The underground bunkers of the forts are on two levels, and it’s worth visiting them in the company of a knowledgeable guide from Karosta (tours are organised from the Karosta prison). There’s a car park alongside the forts. It’s also worth walking down the beach for a distance of around four kilometres to the Northern breakwater. On the shore and in the sea, you’ll see two coastal defence batteries and some pretty impressive views.

Karulas nacionālā parka lielākais ezers - 2,8 km garš, līdz 1 km plats. Ezera ziemeļaustrumu krastā atrodas parka apmeklētāju centrs. 5,5 m dziļais ezers ir gan zivīm, gan nostāstiem bagāta vieta. Ezera un tuvākās apkārtnes iepazīšanas nolūkā ir izveidota 3,5 km garā Ehijerva taka (Ähijärve teerada). Tās sākums atrodas pie iepriekš minētā apmeklētāju centra, kur izveidota atpūtas vieta un atraktīvs bērnu spēļu laukums. Taka sākumā ved gar ezera krastu, nelieliem mitrājiem un meža ceļiem, kas izmantoti iepriekšējos gadsimtos.

This mixed-type park dates back to the latter half of the 19th century and has remained all but unchanged.  It is in a lovely place between two lakes, and its spatial structure was preserved when it was restored.  The park covers 10 ha and has two parts.  One is a fairly precisely rectangular territory alongside the state, surrounded by a stand of linden trees and introduced trees.  The other part has a natural forest.  The largest oak tree in the park has been declared to be a protected element of natural heritage.  The mighty trunk of the tree is 6.3 m around, has a 2m diameter and stands 30.5 m high.

The Jokas farm is 4 km to the East of Turlava.  Owner Jānis Uzulēns has purposefully developed and expanded the farm ever since it was established in 2011.  He is particularly proud of his herd of beef cows, some 70 in all, as well as of five horses.  The farm produces sausages and other meat products and also offers services such as managing forests and fisheries.

One of the most important locations for migrating water birds in terms of rest and feeding in Latvia is the Svēte flood-land, which overflows in the spring time, along with the Svēte polder. It has been calculated that when circumstances are good, tens of thousands of birds can be seen in the area – swans, geese, corn-crakes, pintails, predatory birds, plover-type birds, etc.

The restaurant is situated on the premises of the hotel Kolonna Hotel Rezekne, which is situated in the very centre of Rezekne city, on the bank of the Rezekne River. The restaurant has an attractive interior design. A summer terrace offers a view of the promenade along the Rēzekne River. This is one of the few workshops in Latvia where things are woven with birch bark. You can look at the objects and discuss the experience of the craftspeople. They will help you to produce simple objects out of birch bark, and those will be excellent souvenirs.

The Volkenberga Castle was built in the 13th century by the Livonian Order, and it was practically impregnable, as it was on top of Mākoņkalns hill.  These were among the first fortifications in Latgale, and only fragments of the castle remain today.  Architect Pēteris Blūms has said that this was a special type of fortification.  Legends say that after the lord and lady of the castle died, the property was divided up among their three daughters – Roze, Lūcija and Marija.  Each sister built a new castle on the land which she inherited – Roze built Rēzekne, Lūcija built Ludza, and Marija built Viļaka.  A memorial plaque at the foot of Mākoņkalns hill recalls the visit which pre-war Latvian President Kārlis Ulmanis paid to Latgale in 1938.

This 1939 monument was designed by Kārlis Zemdega and is dedicated to Agriculture Minister Arturs Alberings from the first period of Latvian independence.  The monument shows a young man with a grain basket.  The monument disappeared during the Soviet occupation, and a gypsum statue of a Pioneer was installed instead.  In 1977, children found some parts of the old sculpture buried in the ground, and 10 years later someone found the head of the monument.  After a restoration, the Sower sculpture is now in its historical location – in the Terneja Park alongside Rīgas Street.

The farm breeds historical Portuguese Lusitano breed horses, Shetland ponies, other horses from Europe, Ango Nubian goats, sharp wool sheep from Lithuania's genetic fund, and a large group of various fowl.  Visitors will learn all about the animals and their origin and be given a chance to ride horses and ponies, as well as to observe the animals.
