The memorial site with a 1936 monument produced by the sculptor Kārlis Zāle is located in Smārde near the Smārde-Tukums road. It commemorates 38 soldiers who fell during World War I. Between 1915 and 1917, the front line was near Smārde. Many men were killed, and they were buried at the local swamp. It was only after the war that they were reburied in Smārde, Kūdra, Ķemeri, and Sloka. |

In Akmensrags befindete sich die Küstebatterie Nr.500. Im Jahr 1955. wurde die Batterie demontiert und die Geschütze wurden von den Positionen weggebracht. An diesem Ort befindeten sich vier 130 mm Geschütze, deren Fundamente noch im Wald nördöstlich von dem Leuchtturm zu finden sind. Die Fundamente sind stark mit Moos bewachsen und es ist schwierig sie zu finden oder zu sehen. Für ein nicht-Wissender ist es schwierig sie in der Natur zu finden.

The tower of St Catharine’s Church in Valka opens up a view of the “twin towns” of Valka in Latvia and Valga in Estonia. You can see the former border crossing, the St John’s Lutheran Church of Valga, and a shop in Valga which is visited by many Latvian residents. This is part of the ZBR.

St Peter’s is one of the oldest historical monuments in the Baltic States, and it is also the best place from which to survey the historical centre of Rīga, which is part of the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage. You can see the central part of Old Rīga, City Hall Square, the Pārdaugava region on the opposite side of the river, and even – during clear weather – the Bay of Rīga. The tower of the church is 123 metres high, but the viewing location is at a height of 72 metres.

Historians say that Liv tribes began to settle the territory that is now Latvia in the 10th century. They lived in Northern Kurzeme, at the mouths of the Daugava and Gauja Rivers, and from Ģipka to Oviši, where seaside fishing villages of Liv origin can still be found. Coastal residents have always eaten various sea, river and lake fish dishes, including smoked sole, Baltic herring, cod, bream or eelpout, baked lampreys, salted sprats, Baltic herring and common herring. Fresh and lightly salted Baltic salmon is a delicacy. Whole fish are baked on hot coals, including pike perch, trout, carp, catfish and European perch. Guests can participate in catching and smoking fish and tastings with bits of everything is available on degustations. Rye can be tasted in rye bread and sourdough bread, carrot buns and even pancakes and gingerbread. Barley buns are common in Vidzeme, as are tasty meat and fowl dishes. Open landscape area within farming lands on both banks of Uzava River about 10 km before it flows into the Baltic Sea. There is a good open view over the area from the Vendzava-Ziri road going through the nature park. Protection of migratory birds and corncrakes has been one of the main reasons for establishment of the nature park. Bird watching is possible from the road Vendzava-Ziri during migration period in spring and fall. There is no tourist infrastructure in the nature park.

This is a forested island in the Bay of Finland which is the 6th largest Estonian island and is found 14 km to the N of Tallinn. Two decades ago it was a closed zone, because the Soviet Union had a highly secretive manufacturing plant for maritime mines here.

In den Steinen der Pyramide sind die Namen der örtlichen Häuser eingraviert. Eine 9 m hohe Anhäufung von großen Feldsteinen ist seiner Art ein Denkmal für Krišjāns Barons und seinen Erkenntnissen zum Besten des Volkes. Im Landgut von Valpene hat die Mutter von K. Barons und der künftige Sammler der lettischen "Dainas" (traditionelle lettische Volkslieder oder Gedichte) gelebt. In den Steinen der Pyramide sind die Namen der verschwundenen Häuser eingraviert. Die Richtung der Namen in der Pyramide zeigt einen Standort der ehemaligen Häuser. Der Ideenautor der Pyramide von Valpene war Imants Ziedonis, der Bildhauer – Vilnis Titāns. |

Die Haupttätigkeit des Hofs liegt im Gartenbau: Tomaten, Äpfel, Birnen, Himbeeren, Erdbeeren usw.
