The Neļķes cliffs are in Skaņākalns Park, and they offer the most beautiful view of the Salaka River valley, with its sandstone cliffs and peaceful river. There are good views from the “devil’s pulpit.” It’s worth visiting the Skaņamkalns Hill to check out the views from the famous echo cliff. This is part of the ZBR.

Three little lakes can be found on the left bank of the Pirita River with many erupting “eyes” of streams, each with its own colour (bluish-green, white, dark). This puts together various colour combinations. These are often known as the most beautiful streams in Estonia. Some pump out as much as 20-30 litres of water per hour. It is said that the waters are good medical resources, particularly for the eyes. There are improvements in the area of tourists.

Das in dunklen Tönen gestrichene Gebäude wird  im 17. Jh. erstmalig in Dokumenten erwähnt,  in dessen Keller befand sich das erste Gefängnis der Stadt. Der historische Ratsplatz daneben war der wichtigste Treffpunkt und auch Strafvollzugsplatz, denn in der südöstlichen Ecke des Platzes gab es einen Pranger. Heute befindet sich hier das Touristeninformationszentrum und eine Weberwerkstadt. Hier kann man in Kurzeme hergestellte Waren und Souveniere erwerben, in der Werkstatt bei der Webearbeit zusehen.

The ruins of the Rauna castle (which was built in 1262 and was a main residence of the Livonian archbishop) have a modern viewing tower which offers a view of the impressive castle walls, the place where the former Medieval city was located, and the centre of Rauna. Der Name der Stadt ist in den historischen Quellen zum ersten Mal 1224 erwähnt worden. Im Jahr 1340 hat der Erzbischof von Riga auf dem Burgberg (heute – evangelisch-lutherische Kirche) der Letgallen eine Burg gebaut. Im Jahr 1802 hat das Landgut von Vecgulbene Baron von Wolf (im Besitz bis 1920) gekauft. Die Landgüter der Umgebung von Gulbene und Vecgulbene haben unter der Revolution von 1905 und auch unter anderen weiteren historischen Ereignissen wesentlich gelitten. Heute ändert sich die Landschaft der Stadt sehr stark, besonders in der Gegend des Weißen Schlosses, wo in den letzten Jahren große Restaurationsarbeiten durchgeführt worden sind. Auf jeden Fall ist Gulbene ein Ort, wo man neue Eindrücke sammeln und Kenntnisse erwerben kann.

The National Selection Station at Stende was established in 1922 and is in the Lībaga Parish of the Talsi District – the Dižstende farm. The “Lamb Club” is a farm in Mazsalaca, and it is special because the sheep live in a real club!  The owners offer the atmosphere of a farm at which the sheep play major roles.  Enjoy mutton and sheep milk foods and beverages, feel how comfortable it is to read your favourite while sitting on a fluffy sheepskin, and, in order not to get cold by the campfire in the evening, you can purchase warm woollen socks and woven woollen cloaks.

The owners hope that people from Latvia and all around the world will spend more time at the farm, because accommodations involve a new glamping tent that is as close as possible to nature and the healthy rural environment.  Don’t lose a lick of the comfort that you are used to in your everyday life!

The owners, Ilze and Valters, will be happy to give you a tour during which they talk about herding sheep.  If you contact them in advance, they will prepare a tasty mutton meal for you.  The tour can also be supplemented with various activities such as games, quizzes and creative workshops at which sheep wool is utilised.

Als Treuegabe Herzog Jakob Kettlers an den polnischen König war das Gotteshaus von1640-1642 erbaut worden. In diesem ist unter anderem ein Beichtstuhl mit allegorischen Malereien (1691) erhalten, drei Altäre mit Schnitzereien im Rokoko-Stil und eine Skulptur “Madonna mit dem Kinde” aus dem 16.Jh.. Nach vorheriger Anmeldung kann die Kirche auch von innen besichtigt werden.

In „Silkalni” können Besucher die verschiedenen auf Wiesen, Feldern und im Garten, Wald und Sumpf, Hof oder Pflanzbeet wachsenden Heilkräuter, deren Nutzung zur Gesundheitsunterstützung kennenlernen. Während der Führung zeigt die Wirtin die Heilkräuter, die Geheimnisse der Zucht, Sammlung, Trocknung und Teemischung sowie die Zubereitung von Sirupen. In Aizkraukle, drive down Enerģētiķu Street to the Selonian side (there will be small “pockets” at the side of the road) to see one of the best views of the Daugava River valley, reminding us of what this fateful river was like before the power plant was built. You will see that the river has eroded the steep cliffs on the right bank. The further part of the valley is part of the Daugava Nature Park.

Wir beginnen die Tour in Riga mit einem Bus, fahren entlang der Küste der Ostsee und genießen unterschiedliche Landschaften: weiß-sandige Strände, Küstenwiesen, Dünen mit Kiefernwäldern und Steilküsten. Viele Strände sind wild, unberührt und leer. Während der Sowjetzeit war es strikt verboten, diese Gebiete zu besuchen. Die Tour führt durch ethnographische Fischerdörfer in Nida und den Naturschutzgebiet von Pape, wo wilde Pferde weiden. Die rege Stadt Liepaja beeindruckt mit ihrer lebhaften Promenade und der Musikwelt. Diese Stadt hat auch eine lange Militärgeschichte, die sehr anschaulich in den Befestigungen an der Küste und in der ehemaligen Militärstadt ist. In der gut gepflegten Stadt Ventspils kann man den netten Markt, die Burg und die unzähligen Parks besuchen. Es ist auch wert, die restaurierte Schmalspurbahn mit der Dampflokomotive, sowie das Handwerkerhaus zu besuchen, wo man von den örtlichen Handwerkern handgemachte Souvenirs kaufen kann. Auf dem Rückweg führt die Tour durch die reizvolle Stadt Kuldiga, die mit ihrer gut erhaltenen hölzernen Architektur bekannt ist. Diese Tour bietet auch die Möglichkeit, die zwei interessantesten Nationalparks zu besichtigen: Den Nationalpark Slitere, der die geologische Geschichte der vergangenen Zeitalter erzählt, und den Nationalpark Kemeri mit seinem großartigen Pfad im Moor und den Schwefelquellen.
