The Liv Coastline involves a series of shoreline villages from Ovīši to Ģipka along the shores of the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Rīga.  Like Latvians, Livs are an indigenous population in Latvia, with ancestors who lived here at least 5,000 years ago.  They populated extensive parts of Kurzeme and Vidzeme, and the area in which they lived the longest was Northern Kurzeme, on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

Today visitors to the Liv Coastline mill meet real Liv fishermen, feel the aroma of smoked fish, enjoy traditional dishes, look at diverse ancient fences, learn about the reticent charm of the local landscape, enjoy the place where two seas, birds and people meet at Cape Kolka, hear the Liv dialect of the Latvian language, see rounded hillocks and swampy areas, visit the Šlītere lighthouse, and see the green-white-blue Liv flag, red bilberries, bird migration routes and blue cows.  The oldest evidence of the life of Livs can be found in the Liv centres.  The Liv language and culture are still alive in place names, handicrafts, folk costumes, and the world view and lifestyle of people who live in the area.  The Liv language and cultural values are part of Latvia's national cultural heritage, and traditional Liv culture is part of the Latvian Canon of Culture.

1339. g. Livonijas ordeņa mestrs (no 1328. – 1340.) Eberhards fon Monheims pašu zemgaļu 1286. g. nodedzinātās pils vietā uzceļ jaunu - mūra pili. To sešus gadus vēlāk nodedzināja lietuviešu karaspēks. Pili gan atjaunoja Kurzemes hercoga Ketlera valdīšanas laikā, taču Ziemeļu kara laikā - 1701. g. to atkal noposta zviedru karapulki. Līdz mūsdienām ir saglabājusies tikai no laukakmeņiem celtās pils sienas atliekas.

Baznīcas iekšpusē atrodas nozīmīgi mākslas pieminekļi: altāris (1699. g., pārbūvēts 1861. g., mākslinieks J. Dērings), kancele (1762. g.) un ērģeļu prospekts (1766. g.) – abi Nikolaja fon Korfa dāvinājums, draudzes soli (17. gs. vidus – 18. gs. sāk.), senākais no koka veidotais Bauskas ģerboņa attēlojums (1640. g.), deviņas 16. – 17. gs. kapu plāksnes, epitāfijas u.c. Baznīca, kurā ir vērts ieiet!

Atrodas Vārtājas ielejas labajā krastā un labi saskatāms no Priekules – Grobiņas (P106) ceļa. Senās kuršu zemes – Piemares pilskalns, kas vēstures avotos pirmo reizi minēts 1253. gadā – līgumā starp Kurzemes bīskapu un Livonijas ordeni. Viens no lielākajiem Dienvidkurzemes pilskalniem. Iespējams, ka iepriekš – arī sens kulta kalns. Pagājušā gadsimta sešdesmitajos gados veiktajos arheoloģiskajos izrakumos konstatēts, ka pilskalns bijis apdzīvots jau vidējā dzelzs laikmetā. Pie tā konstatēta liela senspilsētas vieta.

Das Gotteshaus befindet sich in der Katedrāles Straße 1. Es ist im Jahr 1893 in den architektonischen Formen der hölzernen Kirchen von Nordrussland (Architekt Vladimirs Lunskis) gebaut worden und es ist das älteste Gotteshaus von Ķemeri. An der Kirche sind 97 im Ersten Weltkrieg gefallene russische Soldaten bestattet worden, denen im Jahr 1925 ein Denkmal – ein schwarzes Kreuz aus Marmor – enthüllt wurde. Unweit von der Kirche kann man einen Brüderfriedhof und ein Denkmal finden, die beide den im Zweiten Weltkrieg Gefallenen und den nach dem Krieg von Verletzungen Verstorbenen gewidmet sind. Laut Erzählungen wurde die Kirche ohne keinen einzigen Nagel gebaut. Die Kirche kann man während der Gottesdienste besuchen, aber die Besucher müssen geeignet angezogen sein! In anderer Zeit ist das Gebäude von außen zu besichtigen.

Der kurvige Pfad durch das Naturschutzgebiet darf nur in Begleitung eines Führers des SNP betreten werden. Über steile Treppen, die zur ehemaligen Küste des Baltischen Eismeeres führen, gelangt man in eine andere Welt, in der man Böschungswälder, Wälder mit breitblättrigen Bäumen, Quellenmoor, kalkiges Moor, Überreste alter Entwässerungsgräben und modernde Tannenstämme (bedeutend für die Artenvielfalt), die sich seit den Stürmen von 1969 erhalten haben. Der Pfad beginnt am Leuchtturm von Slītere in dem sich (in der Saison) das SNP Besucherzentrum befindet.

It also features outstanding flora and the shallow waters of the Bay of Rīga. Recommended: Hike along the seashore from Mērsrags to Engure (20 km). See wild domestic animals (horses and cows) on the eastern shore of Lake Engure. From the historical and architectural perspective, this is an interesting monument to urban construction between the 17th and 19th centuries.  Old Liepāja is in the area of the old market and Kuršu Square, where merchants sold their wares beginning in the 1560s.  Until 1792, Kuršu Square was also where punishments were implemented.  The current Pētertirgus pavilion was installed alongside the square in 1910.  A map shows that the network of streets has partly preserved the chaos of street planning that was typical in Medieval towns.
