In the year 1944, august he deserted the Volhova front and made his way home to Liepaja. (In Vecpils he still has relatives, and his sister still lives there today. In Liepaja they caught him and brought him to the front again, this time to the navy. Again Celmiņš deserted and the Military patron caught him again on the street in Liepaja. During the time he was in freedom Celmiņš bought a German officers uniform in the market and hid that under his street close. During certain embarrassment in the court yard Celmiņš dressed in the German uniform and casually walked out of the prison. Celmiņš was not very lucky because he was caught a third time.
