Valka is a place where there is a unique place at the town centre where one can stand in two countries at once - one foot in Latvia, the other in Estonia, holding saldējums in one hand and jäätis in the other. Which ice cream will melt more quickly - northern Latvia or southern Estonia? Take a selfie by the border post. Listen whether frogs are croaking in Latvia or Estonian in the little Varžupīte River. Look at the direction in which the endless boundary crosser - the Pedele River - flows.
Visit Valka and the administrative district for "Home Café Days." You will be able to be in two countries simultaneously, but also travel through a broad world of flavours where you will find diverse tastes and nurture your tastebuds. We particularly suggest visiting Kārķi, where the Kārķi festival will be held on August 14 with various delightful activities and a festival programme.
"Home Café Days" from August 14-15 in the Valka Administrative District, with five cafés in Valka and the administrative district taking part

► What are "Home Café Days"?
The yards of farms and other places that are not linked to dining and accommodations on a daily basis will turn into cafés for a day or two. Guests will be able to taste local foods to learn new flavours, as well as to enjoy an interesting cultural programme. Each farm has families and/or friends who will prepare a special offer -- flatbreads, cakes, casseroles etc. to be served with tea or coffee. Each farm will present the name of its café, and the products will be served with characteristic cultural characteristic and stories. There will also be various cultural activities such as handicrafts, games, playing of musical instruments, etc.
