"Home Café Days" in the new Ogre Administrative District -- taste the most colourful and adventurous autumn tastes on October 2-3.

Autumn is a wealthy man!  "Home Café Days" in the new Ogre Administrative District invite guests to enjoy the colourful autumn, enjoy gastronomic treats and learn about local farms more closely than ever before. 

Guests will encounter sheep, rabbits, cats and home-cooked meals on the musical stage of the Sheep barn.  The "Akmeņkalni" farm will offer homemade foods based on chicken and quail eggs, chicken, and seasonal vegetables grown in the garden.  The Dižbajāri ranch offers French country emotions in the presence of horses.  Guests will enjoy nutritious soup, spicy dishes, salad, dessert and plates of meats, cheeses and vegetables.  The "Dobelnieki" farm will offer grilled venison and vegetables from its garden.  There will also be sweet applesauce made from apples in the farm's orchards, as well as cottage cheese crème.  The "FlavorFlip" home café on the shores of Lake Seleki features dishes from locally harvested ingredients with side dishes that are popular among Latvians.  "Garšu sēta" in the Tome Parish will treat guests will a fine dining menu in the moods of the autumn.  "Indiņi" near Madliena will offer foods cooked on a campfire, including pork plov which originated in Kazan, Solyanka soup, cream of pumpkin soup and other dishes.  The "Pie Pētera" home café will serve various soups cooked on a campfire.  The nearby AKOTI active leisure centre will offer its services.  Nearby guests will find Špakovskis Park and the new Ogre pedestrian bridge.  "Ķentes gardumi" is a home café that serves meat buns, pancakes and smoked meats.  "Pie Labumu bodes" will offer lamb stew cooked on a campfire along with just-baked bread and herbed butter.  Guests can buy a souvenir Ikšķile coin.  "The "Lūšu grava" home café will offer a three-dish menu based on honey.  Disc golf can be played there.  "Melnā Kamene" in Ogre will welcome guests with cream of pumpkin soup, herring, pastries, porridge, cream of chanterelle soup and an apple dessert.  "Pie Mimi" serves various kinds of potato pancakes and sandwiches with healthy tea or coffee.  An exhibition of ceramic dishes is nearby.  The home café "Viesības ābeļdārzā" at the "Zaļumnieki" homestead will offer an autumn party in an orchard.  Guests will enjoy tasty dishes in a cosy outdoor café, test their skills at garden games, pick apples to take along or just enjoy the environment.  And, finally, the "Krapes Crepes" home café in Krape will allow you to bake your own pancakes in a merry atmosphere.  Guests will learn about nutritional meadow plant elixirs.  If you contact the café in advance, you can take a class in producing soy candles.

Colourful?  Always.  Visit the new Ogre Administrative District, learn about it, taste it, and enjoy it!

► What are "Home Café Days"?
The yards of farms and other places that are not linked to dining and accommodations on a daily basis will turn into cafés for a day or two.  Guests will be able to taste local foods to learn new flavours, as well as to enjoy an interesting cultural programme.  Each farm has families and/or friends who will prepare a special offer -- flatbreads, cakes, casseroles etc. to be served with tea or coffee.  Each farm will present the name of its café, and the products will be served with characteristic cultural characteristic and stories.  There will also be various cultural activities such as handicrafts, games, playing of musical instruments, etc.

Please note: 

  • When planning your route, you must get in touch with the desired destinations in advance. Contact information can be found in the sections "Home Cafés" and "Map".
  • Make sure that you know the date and time when participants will be providing services.  Usually that will be between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, but some venues may have different opening times.
  • Make sure that you keep national epidemiological rules in mind to protect yourself, the people you are visiting, and other visitors, as well. For timely information about the epidemiological situation, please visit www.spkc.gov.lv (the Latvian Sickness Prevention and Control Centre), or covid19.gov.lv.
  • The epidemiological situation may mean that there will be changes in the offers. Visit "Home Cafés" or "Map", to click on specific offers and see whether that is so.
  • At some of the "Home Cafés," payment will only be accepted in cash.
